"Due to a software error, the integrated control module (ICM) central processing unit (CPU) may reset while driving, causing a loss of drive power," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a recall report.

-

Another example of automobiles being stupidly complex.

Computer programming is not a good place for DEI.

could cause "loss of power while driving,"

Mercedes - of all car companies - had this problem too. I had an elderly neighbor whose car lost power on an interstate highway and almost was killed in a wreck. Its scary how one software glitch can cause a car to literally shut down in the middle of driving.

...and gullible FOMO techno enthusiastic public running to be first in line embracing the newest gizmos...
The reliance on inherently bug ridden software is very concerning...high upside, but disastrous downside....ask passengers on certain 737’s if you can...
Cassandra needs to be heard also....

So, I'm guessing this cannot be solved with an over-the-air software update.
Will probably have to flash or replace the ECU at the dealer's garage.

I have two Hondas, a 2003 Element and a 2008 Accord.

The Element, I have to bang on the dash to get the interior lights to come on; And the Accord, I don't open the moonroof because it doesn't want to close.

But I'm not worried about "software errors" stopping them in the middle of the road.

Software has no place in automobiles... I’d prefer points and condensers a timing light and carb. Can’t be hacked or taken out with an EMP.

My father LOATHED the notion of computers being in cars and trucks. I can still hear him bellowing "A car only needs gas, air and electricity, it don't need no stupid computer!"

Dad passed away eleven years ago this week. He would have absolutely lost it to hear that a car needed a software update.

The repair involves unplugging for ten seconds.

Modern electronics are prone to changing their minds on what they are suppossed to accomplish. Wait till AI is pervasive.

Cars are being made with remote engine shut off in case the police want to pull you over.
The car companies are also installing steering wheels with no direct connection to the wheels.
Also the brakes are connected to a module that will determine how the brakes will work.

Drive by wire and hope there is no software glitches...
