SNAP Benefits Shutdown: A Good Time to Reassess – 54% of Federal Benefit Recipients Non-Citizens

More than half of all illegal-immigrant households have at least one U.S.-born child through whom they can receive aid. Nearly 2.7 million households have at least one illegal head and one child, and more than 5.3 million U.S.-born children of illegal aliens hold Social Security numbers. The total estimated cost to American taxpayers of providing SNAP benefits to the children of illegal aliens is almost $5.8 billion.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, data from the 2022 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) indicates that 54 percent of households headed by immigrants—including naturalized citizens, legal residents, and illegal immigrants, used one or more major welfare programs.

Non-citizens are of course eligible.... Only Illegals should not be eligible.

Immigrants should not be eligible for a period of time after they arrive. I'd suggest 5 years since that's how long it takes to gain citizenship. People should not be able to come to America for free stuff. It's a magnet for the wrong type of people. If they have been here 5 years and have still not become naturalized, then they should not enjoy the benefits and rights of citizenship.

And children of non-citizen immigrants should not be granted citizenship.

Shut off free stuff and birthright citizenship, and the freeloaders will stop coming. Millions here will leave.

It’s stunning

There are illegal aliens in the Bay Area who were recruited by California social workers to come in to the US to have anchor babies back in the 1990s and they have been on welfare ever since

Entire extended families where no one has ever had a real, taxpayer job in their life

It used to be that you could only immigrate to the US if you had a job set up and people who would vouch for you. Now, people have poured in illegally and are immediately getting on perpetual public assistance.

That has got to stop.

No, they were not.

Because they did not choose to nationalize.

They were here as guests and chose to retain that status. That is fine, that is their decision. But you do not get to claim family benefits and choose to keep your membership in another family at the same time.

Which is what they were doing.

Exactly. If you can’t make it here, go home.

Anchor babies are not real USA citizens. They should get NOTHING, and be deported along with their parents.

Looking straight at you Kamala Harris and Joy Reid.

That’s ridiculous. We have immigration laws...they do NOT require that you become a citizen.

But they do (or did) require that you not be a burden on society.

Agree...immigration laws have changed over time and sponsors were/are required.

I don't know how asylum laws and immigration laws work together

ALL GREEN CARD HOLDERS, are required to have a Legal Sponsor for the first 10 years to GUARANTEE against them being a Public Charge. I had to sign away my income and assets for 10 years to get my wife her green card.

IT IS STILL THE LAW TODAY

True. I had to sign on my citizenship application, too, that I hadn’t been and wouldn’t be ‘a ward of the state’.

NB...None of my grandparents ever became citizens. They were all legal citizens, worked, paid taxes, etc etc..

They were all legal citizens, worked, paid taxes, etc etc..

This doesn't make sense to me. It seems like a contradiction to first say, "None of my grandparents ever became citizens," and follow up by saying, "They were all legal citizens, worked, paid taxes, etc etc.." Do you mean that your grandparents never became citizens, but rather, stayed legal permanent residents, worked, paid taxes, etc., etc.? Please clarify.

TRUE!!! It's absurd that the taxpayers must educate their children, provide language tutors, to say nothing about health care, orthodontics, etc., etc., etc.

this. if SNAP is taken away from these grifters, to quote the great Ross Perot, ‘you will hear a great sucking sound’ from Mexico in reverse of what it was 30 years ago.

Sorry...I meant legal permanent residents (not citizens). They came about 1910.

“Only Illegals should not be eligible.”

I disagree. Nobody should come to the US to go on welfare of any kind.

The spending guidelines need to be fixed.

I support immigrants who come here, work, go to church, support their family....but not those who come here to go on welfare.
