Will SNAP benefits not be issued in November due to the government shutdown? My cleaning lady, a cancer survivor receiving SNAP (she desperately needs it) just asked me, and I don't know. Does any FReeper definitively know?

We should start demanding much better from our elected govt. They seem to think they can borrow money forever and there will never be an accounting.

This is a situation that would not occur if states had not voted to have welfare distributed out of D.C. as opposed to the state level or even county level where it was initially. When states had to cough up the money for welfare themselves they scrutinized who got the assistance and it was ceased if the individual disqualified themselves somehow. Now you have a system that is bloated and has NO incentive to actually help a person/family up but it keeps enlarging the amount of people obtaining the taxpayers monies. All welfare should be locally applied for and decided upon as to wether or not a CITIZEN qualifies. The handout (especially for food) has created a new class of slaves.
Tell her elections have consequences and to think about that next time she votes for a dem.

Recipients also include:
Military Families and Veterans.
Those with real Disabilities.
Those who have to pay far too much in Prescription copays.
Those who have to pay far too high health insurance premiums.
Those who have to pay 50% rent higher than it should be.
Those who have to pay far too high of utility bills.
Widows only getting half their Husbands Social Security and hose who are only getting Social Security as income and it will not cover all of the above^^^^^
It all adds up to in this economy folks just cannot make ends meet. Money does not grow on tress and they need that little extra to get by period. There are a whole lot of them RIGHT HERE ON THE FREE REPUBLIC who would not be able to get by without SNAP.
According to E, the woman is still under treatment and has very difficult days.
I’ve never seen anything in EinNYC’s posts to suggest that the situation is other than just as she describes it.

Welcome to the club, Teddy Bear. I've been doing so for a LONG time. Usually in the form of already cooked by me. I am considered an accomplished cook, so she can really enjoy food she doesn't, after working hard all day, have to cook. It brings me great pleasure to see her enjoy herself.

I help out at my church doing food distribution to help those in need.
What do you do? Besides pitch a fit on FR I mean.
But getting the people who should not be here off of the system so we can help our citizens who are in need would be a major step forward. But you are not interested in that are you.
There would be more money for the citizens who are in need, the price of things would go down, salaries would go up, the cost of maintaining law and order would go down, it would get a lot of people out of our prison system, where we have to support them I might add and make our poorer areas less dangerous.
