Antonio Gates allegedly hosted and played in a rigged Miami poker game, according to a new report.
Sports investigative journalist Pablo Torre reported on Sunday that the Hall of Fame tight end hosted and participated in an allegedly rigged game that was organized by Curtis Meeks, who was indicted by federal prosecutors as part of the massive gambling scandal that rocked the NBA.
Details were limited, but Torre’s report follows a report by The Post on Saturday, where one purported victim said that he and his friends had been scammed of nearly $1 million, with an ex-NFL player serving as the “face card” for a game in which Meeks was a main participant.

All the greedy leagues sold themselves to gambling firms, it’s all over their broadcasts and stadiums now. And they should have known they were just one gambling scandal away from real problems that could heavily impact the whole league, Like black-sox-almost-killed-baseball bad. It was a really bad decision.
Former NFL player Lawrence Taylor appeared in a 2004 episode of ‘The Sopranos’ at a card game although I suspect using a noted sports player as a ‘roper’ for con games has been going on for decades prior to that.
Will people get upset about rigged NFL games? They haven’t a host of other items, elections, investigations, scientific studies (EPA, FDA).
If a player accepts an “honorarium” to attend a rigged game, even a secret honorium, he might be innocent of cheating. It’s harder to excuse him if he hosted a rigged game because he must have known that the appartus being installed was not fair or honest.

I’ve seen too many dropped passes by multimillionaire wide receivers in the past few years that I could have easily caught in 9th grade junior high football to not believe at least some of it isn’t rigged.
To me, it’s pretty obvious.
Also a few years ago the nfl team in my town had a petulant player that openly stated he wanted to play somewhere else.......what did he do?....kept claiming he was injured and couldn’t play....basically forcing the team to trade him.....just like he wanted.
I would imagine that tactic is common in pro football for several reasons......one thing for sure, they aren’t getting any of my hard earned money.

Ya can’t rig “entertainment.” It’s like saying the WWE is rigged. It’s the reason the NFL isn’t a sport entity but an entertainment entity.
