Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday challenged President Trump to make a friendly wager on the outcome of the World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.
But Mr. Carney said Mr. Trump hasn’t returned his call yet on the potential bet.
“I think he’s afraid, I think he’s afraid to make a bet,” Mr. Carney joked to The Associated Press while taking in batting practice at Toronto’s Rogers Centre a day before Game 1 of the World Series in Toronto.
“He doesn’t like to lose. He hasn’t called. He hasn’t returned my call yet on the bet, so I’m ready. We’re ready to make a bet with the U.S.”
Mr. Carney predicts the Blue Jays will win the best-of-seven series in six games.
“This country is so pumped. I think the world is so pumped for this series,” Mr. Carney said, noting the interest in Japan because of Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.
Canada’s only major league team will have the country behind it during the World Series.

If you win, you can have Chuckle Schumer.
Chauncy Billups will give him odds.
Don Mattingly?
My wife is Canadian. Baseball isn’t really a thing in most of Canada. Her home village (population 300) in northern Alberta had a curling rink, but no basketball hoops or baseball diamonds.
Canada used to have two baseball teams. The Montreal Expos moved after they couldn’t even get a local TV station to carry the games. Internet only in the era of 56K modems.
Just as all those U.S. teams that win the Stanley Cup has a plurality of Canadians on the rosters, the Blue Jays is comprised mostly of Americans (2/3rds) and only one Canadian (Joey Votto).
Ooops. Votto retired last year after a long career, batting .143 for the AAA Buffalo Bisons. ZERO Canadians on the Blue Jays.
Number of Major League Players by Countries
1. USA 1,081. 73.5%
2 Dominican Republic 144 9.8%
3 Venezuela 93 6.3%
4 Cuba 34 2.3%
5 Puerto Rico 27 1.8%
6 Canada 22 1.5%
“Trump’s post came shortly after the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute released a statement, saying the Government of Ontario created an ad campaign “using selective audio and video” of Reagan that “misrepresents” a 1987 radio address from the former president.”
Here come the lawyers.
Liberals wherever found are lying sacks of fertilizer. We should invade Canada, kidnap Carney and force him to wait tables in the new & improved WH. That they burned down, btw.
Never bet against a Carney. Their games area all rigged.
lol - such anachronistic frivolity
California for Alberta, Vancouver Island, and all of B.C. except Vancouver and environs. Go big.
Funny. Trump just cut off all trade relations with Canada. Let Carney starve, and euthanize his own people.
I can see you're not a Phightin' Phillies fan. Although it may have been 1993, that wound is still unhealed.
It's too bad that Benedict Arnold failed in his attempt to capture Quebec. That might have been the start of something good, and maybe the dipshit never would have turned traitor.
Tone deaf.
We could trade Ontario for Greenland.
Agree. I turned totally against Canadian people at the start of the conflict over tariffs and never looked back.
Wow, yay Blue Jays.
Who cares.
I quit caring about baseball when the Expos were on track to play the World Series, but because the Blue Jays had won the previous 2 consecutive “World” series, “”Suddenly”” there was a players VS owners’ dispute.
Imagine that, MLB couldn’t stomach an American team NOT winning the “World “ series three years in a row...
And in an interesting turn of events, their being unable to play a championship event KILLED the Expos. Who then became the “Washington” baseball team...
Yeah, go pound sand, “friends”.
Nothing personal, of course.
Dodgers win, we get Canada, they get Commiefornia.
Blue Jays win, they get Commiefornia.
Well there’s a certain amount of hysteria about this, but basically it’s a proposition where we hope our American baseball players beat your American baseball players (plus Godzilla) in a sport almost no Canadians play.
Trust Carney to try to turn it into a big political deal.
I see all the bad blood between our two countries and wish it would all go away, this continent could be a paradise if it were properly governed, and that applies to both countries. I think Trump is on the right track on most things, but he would benefit from better advice about some things perhaps. Carney actually hasn’t been anywhere near as bad as we expected, he is sort of governing like he arrived in a time machine from 1957. But the Liberals probably have not really changed, they are just pretending to be reasonable to hold back the inevitable collapse the next time around.
By the way it was Ontario premier Doug Ford behind the Reagan ad, not Carney. Doug Ford is actually a Trump-like personality who likes to bluster around and make outrageous statements. They would probably hit it off and have a great bro-mance if they met under different circumstances.
I think the final outcome of all this will be a huge surprise to everybody. It will be something nobody can anticipate or imagine. I say that equally for both sides, the dispute is of a world fading away and not reflective of the world to come.
