Live TV footage of a California police chase ended in horror as a fleeing suspect was mowed down and killed by a passing car before the cameras could cut away.
A chopper for CBS Los Angeles was filming police chasing a suspected thief in a stolen white van through Chinatown on Monday when the driver headed onto the 110 Freeway, coming to a near stop.
The driver then climbed out the van’s window as it was still moving slowly forward, then immediately tried to climb over the median.
However, he stumbled — and immediately got mowed down by a passing car as he got to his feet and moved forward, with the camera panning back quickly showing other cars also unable to stop.
“Oh my God! Oh no, oh no, ” a horrified anchor gasped, as someone else orders the cameraman to keep the shot “wide” as “he got hit.”
When the live feed cut to the studio, the hosts were seen with their jaws wide open at having just seen — and showed — a man’s death.
The man was struck by two cars, according to KTLA.
Police attempted life-saving measures as they awaited the arrival of paramedics with the LA Fire Department, according to footage from KTLA.

oops
Was the car damaged?
Happy Ending
Play stupid games.
Guaranteed the family sues the driver.
Well, if there ever was a visual to show why you shouldn’t run from the police ...
Stupid people die in stupid ways.
True.
I imagine the perp had little concern for innocent bystanders as he was tear-assing around LA, running from the cops
Sorry. I’m finding it hard to generate any sympathy
That’s one way to reduce prison spending.
CC
He FO’d on live TV..................
He chose.....poorly.
The perp was wearing dark clothes, how could the driver possibly see him?
But you just know this guy was either an illegal alien or a democrat. Now that it’s road kill, it’s a win win for society.
Saved a lot of taxpayer money.
The “news” shows this stuff as entertainment.

Except for the fun part of getting away, a lot of guys have fun running from police stories, but those are usually lower key than these big time chases.
There was a scene like that on L O S T if I recall but I think it was a man that time. Somebody claiming that the odds of getting hit by a bus and then *splat*.
They carry all the car chases and if it lasts two hours they’ll preempt their other programming. And people will sit there and watch all two hours.
