Serena Williams has spoken of her discomfort after she spotted a cotton plant in a New York City hotel.
The retired tennis star was in the Big Apple on Thursday after promoting Kim Kardashian's SKIMS/Nike launch the day prior.
The 43-year-old recorded her walk down the hallway of an undisclosed hotel and spotted a table with a vase of cotton plants.

Sounds like she’s running out of things to virtue-signal about.
If cotton is racist, so should sugar be. For centuries, most of the world’s cane sugar was produced by slaves. In the New World, rice was also mostly produced by slaves, as was tobacco. So blacks should avoid consuming cane sugar, rice or tobacco products.
Her hey-day is over. Now she’s bored, so to speak, with all those millions. I’m not surprised it’s stuff like this. Her father raised her and Venus to have a chip on their shoulder and a victim mentality. When the girls were young “phenoms”, Sports illustrated featured him in a story about how he was their coach. I recall the writer included how he drummed things into them like, ‘You’ve got it harder because you’re black’...’Us versus them’...and God knows what else he said when the writer wasn’t there.
All the farmers here rotate their crops year to year. Custom harvesters harvest for them. This year everyone is growing cotton. Cotton fields everywhere.

Just the usual WTF moment!
My paternal grandfather was born in 1871. He was a hardscrabble Kentucky dirt farmer who bareley eked out a living off the land. Not a slave except to the land...not fed and housed by anyone else.
They all had a cash crop to make money while they also did subsistence farming (growing most of the food you eat so you don't have to buy it, especially during the great depression).
