Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview published on Thursday that he would be ready to step down after the war with Russia is over.
“If we finish the war with the Russians, yes, I am ready not to go [for elections] because it’s not my goal, elections,” Zelensky told the Axios website in a video interview.
“I wanted very much, in a very difficult period of time, to be with my country, help my country. My goal is to finish the war.”
Zelensky said he would ask Ukraine’s parliament to organise elections if a ceasefire was reached.
A presidential election due in 2024 was suspended in line with martial law, introduced in Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022. Zelensky, a former comedian, was elected in 2019.
Russia has repeatedly questioned Zelensky’s legitimacy as a leader as a result.

The United States has never suspended presidential elections during wartime. Elections have continued even during significant conflicts, such as the Civil War and both World Wars, as mandated by the Constitution.

Why did people vote for Zelinski? Oh, yea because he was the peace candidate. Immediately after his election he became somebody the people did not vote for, and eventually he got the war he deserved for his efforts.
Let us not forget that in 2008 and then again in 2012 the US formented Coups in Ukraine, handpicking the people to run in both elections and run the country. That we went and found a 2-4% group of the population that were Bandaras NAZIs to run the country and turn it into an anti-Russian war machine was a failure of the Obama, Trump, Biden, Trump collective Ukraine Presidential Braintrust.
There can be no cessation of hositilities as long as Zelinski is president, and his party in power; that his National Guard AZOR brigades exist, nor the ties to MI6/CIA.
Zelinski will flee from Ukraine long before capitulation of the AFU.
Remember Russia will not accept any Bandarites, e.g., NAZIs in Ukraine.
The next election in Ukraine will be held by Russia in Kiev; the US will then be gone and Trump washing his hands of any responsibility.

Ukraine is not the United States. Many countries have provisions for martial law. As it has been repeatedly pointed out, the UK suspended elections during WWII.

Martial law delaying elections did not mean that all the affected office holders in place at that moment go home and the government become empty and leaderless during wartime.
