How did he jump down from that distance/roof ... with a Mouser rifle barrel in his pants?

His legs bent when he landed/crouched, on the ground.

The building is on a hill. It’s like it is terraced. Reed the charging document and it explains it.
Surveillance video shows him entering a main door. He went onto an outdoor patio or common area and hopped over a short wall to get onto the roof and crouched down. He was only on the roof for like 2-3 minutes.

12:22 Ran across the roof
12:23 Took the shot
12:24 Dropped off the roof

Reports said a screwdriver was found on the roof with his DNA. My guess is the screwdriver was used to defeat the roof access door lock.

I assume that there is a roof access in that Building.

Even if that is the case, the roof is usually not accessible to anyone other than maintenance personnel.

After saying that. I must say that a Savings & Loan that I worked at in D.C. in the 1980s, another co-worker & I were able to get onto the roof. I went up only once, and refused to get close to the edge, because there was no protective railing or barrier whatsoever. I never went up there again either. Now I have no idea if someone accidentally left it unlocked or what, but I thought this is not right.

It's been a while but I think it was one of the highest allowable structures at 10 stories max, with the only exception being the Washington Monument.

“A retired FBI agent was on Fox and he said he could have jimmied the lock leading to the roof and that’s why he had the screwdriver.”

Over thinking....

The roof/ door could easily be one of those places, known to most. That the door is usually wedged, propped, or generally open and students (and teachers) may know it is a place to grab a smoke..

Sorry.

Going down stairs is slower.

Then have to go through whatever area of the floor to get to an exit door.

A 18/20 something is less likely to be worried about breaking an ankle on a 12’ jump.

Correct. By my estimation, the drop (it wasn’t really a “jump”) was about 6-7 feet to soft ground. What I recall is he caught it with his legs, he did not even tuck and roll.

He used the well known technique of hanging from the edge, then dropping feet first. I don’t recall if he dropped the pack and stuff he was carrying first, which is the approved method, so you don’t have to absorb the shock of the extra weight.

HOW DID HE GET ON THE ROOF?

You'll have to be more specific.

That’s your opinion.

The FBI agent was simply speculating.

Video of the assassin walking on the roof and jumping down when fleeing shows no indication of the rifle.

This has been debunked. The video of him running across the roof and then dropping down to the ground shows he was carrying a long object with him, which he picks up after the drop. The resolution is just not good enough to positively identify it as a rifle.

I think this is a very valid question and I believe that Zinn or someone else at UVU had keys and let him up there, which is why Cox and others are so paranoid about it.

The university is going to be held liable.

Jumping is iffy. And it is extremely lucky he didn’t blow out his knee or ankle on the landing.

Yes, look how that worked out for John Wilkes Booth....

The bigger question is how did the rifle get off the roof and then into the woods. Video of the assassin walking on the roof and jumping down when fleeing shows no indication of the rifle. What happened to it? How did it get down the roof? How did it get in the woods?

Read the charging document. There was a public common area next to the roof.

Where was the rifle?

He was carrying a long object (almost certainly the rifle) up to the edge of the roof, as he was running. It appears he dropped the rifle to the ground, because he picks up a long object again, when he recovers from the drop.

The resolution is just not good enough to consistently show the long object. It is probably too thin to consistenly be picked up in the camera pixels in every frame. It shows up consistently as you watch the video as he runs across the roof. It works better to slow the video down.
