A Long Island newspaper was forced to apologize after publishing a graphic Charlie Kirk cartoon slammed as 'unconscionable' and 'despicable'.
Newsday removed the offending political illustration from all its platforms and acknowledged an 'error in judgment' after intense backlash from readers.
The cartoon depicted an empty blood-splattered chair under a tent labeled 'Charlie Kirk.' An arrow points upwards toward the seat with the caption 'Turning Point USA,' the non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Kirk.
The banner above the tent reads 'prove me wrong', which was Kirk's slogan for his college campus political debate events.
The illustration was created by Pulitzer finalist illustrator Chip Bok, who has not responded to the Daily Mail's request for comment.
The drawing sparked outrage in some of the few deep red Trump counties in New York, triggering Republican chair members throughout Nassau and Suffolk County to speak out about the 'shameful' cartoon.
Suffolk County Republican Chairman Jesse Garcia expressed his disdain toward the cartoon in a statement, writing Long Island's only daily paper 'crossed a line.'
'By publishing a vile cartoon about the political assassination of Charlie Kirk, the paper has mocked tragedy, stoked division, and poured gasoline on the flames of political violence.

I actually took it another way. I took the cartoon as a call to action at this assassination, a “turning point” in this ongoing and broiling near-Civil War.
He is not a caring conservative or Christian.
Okay, I don’t see that at all but clearly I don’t know what it’s supposed to be saying so could be.
Hmmm... yeah, I think the idea of the cartooon is that Charlie’s assassination is itself a “turning point” for the country. Seems like a legitimate point.
That’s how I see it as well. A poster upthread said Bok usually leans right — I did an image search and find that to be true. I think Bok was emphasizing that Kirk’s martyrdom will accelerate the preference cascade towards sanity that was Charlie (and now Erika) Kirk’s life work and purpose. To paraphrase Mrs. Kirk, the evil collective that killed her husband have NO IDEA what a “Turning Point” they have unleashed!
I took it as a powerful statement. It is indeed a turning point. I don’t understand what the uproar is.
Then agaiin, I also believe that the video should be plastered everywhere for everyone to see. It should not be scrubbed, because it scrubs the brutality and evil of the left from the history of it, or contributes to it anyway. The video should be everywhere.
Yeah
They should’ve made the “Turning Point” more prominent.
Same with the horrific murder of that Ukrainian girl. It should be seen, all the way until the end of the video when blood spills across the floor. It is so completely shocking and disturbing to watch, but it is a heavy dose of reality. It will never make a story about someone being murdered the same.
This video should be a wake up call to those who fail to think about personal safety. And I’ll go there: to accept our current reality that violence is disproportionately coming from blacks. To know about where you are going and to pay attention to your surroundings.
Pookies Toons are almost 100% non-leftist.
They're on that site named 'Free Republic', and they are available almost daily.
Give it a try sometime, you might like it.

So they’re saying that we should not have done that? Liberals can’t or don’t think before doing.
I agree. I’ve studied the political cartoon in question, and don’t see anything wrong with it. I must be missing something ...
I check cartoons daily on ArcaMax. There are several conservative cartoonists including Gary Varvel, Tom Stiglich, Lisa Benson and others. Of course Pookie picks up a lot of them.
I have tracked Ramerez for 50 years since he was in Memphis. Reliably conservative most of the time. No one will agree with you 100%.
Glenn McCoy isn’t a lib.
It’d be a shame if someone posted the address of this creep.
I wouldn’t countenance that at all.
Nope.
Not me.
