There are take down Mausers.
The picture I saw was a Mauser action with a composite sporter stock and modified to accept a scope. It was not a takedown rifle.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Some of the WWI Mausers guns had their barrel shortened as well.
I just found it odd that some claim Lee Harvey Oswald used a Mauser including a rogue DPD officer who died mysteriously a short time later.
As a boy I owned the old WWI mauser with a bayonet, and at the beginning I was puzzled about the mentions of it, but the one they are talking about is just a regular modern 30-06 hunting rifle that looks like most other bolt action hunting rifles.
Is it true as Michael Savage said in a video that the gun used was not easily taken apart (for concealment) or put back together?
Thanks.
Unless it was a Savage 110 with the removal barrel. I’ve built several Mauser actions and don’t remember any that were changeable. Didn’t Remington and Ruger also offer rifles with interchangeable barrels at one time?
I believe the “official” report says that it was an Italian Carcano rifle.
But these days, who knows anything for certain anymore?
They might be talking about the generic Mauser bolt action. We copied it for our Springfield 30-06.
It might be a Springfield tarted up with new furniture, not necessarily made by Mauser.
Remember, Private Jackson used one in Saving Private Ryan?
Why couldn’t they find a left handed one for him?
I think Brazil was the only country chambering in 30-06, back then. This rifle was likely commercially sporterized.
If you take a look at the photo the scope is mounted as far back as possible.
Why?
It seems the recoil of a .30-06 would drive the ocular back into your eye (I know someone who had this happen).

I saw a security video of him walking down the street. He had the butt under his shirt and the barrel down a pants leg so he walked straight legged on the right side.
Robinson's recovered rifle in evidence box at the site of recovery.
The unusual gray area on the scope and stock is a shaft of sunlight through the cover of the shaded recovery site.
The bent down bolt handle indicates the Mauser was manufactured or converted for sport hunting purposes.
Unfortunately, the photo trims the very tip of the barrel from view.
It was probably manufactured for sport hunting however, that is not certain.
They say he carried in inside his pant leg. There is an apparent video of him walking strangely down the street, one leg being quite stiff, and unable to bend at the knee.
Built on a Mauser 98 receiver. It’s a popular platform. Springfield stole it to build the 1903. Winchester and Ruger copied it.CZ uses it. Many custom gun builders use it as a basis for builds.
“I believe the “official” report says that it was an Italian Carcano rifle.”
A firearms expert that helped to look for the rifle in the book depository identified it as a Mauser 7.65mm that were manufactured in Argentina. It was then later changed to the Carcano Model 38 on all the official reports.
The one used on Charlie was a Mauser 7.62mm that uses the .30-06 round.
