As a boy I owned the old WWI mauser with a bayonet, and at the beginning I was puzzled about the mentions of it, but the one they are talking about is just a regular modern 30-06 hunting rifle that looks like most other bolt action hunting rifles.

They might be talking about the generic Mauser bolt action. We copied it for our Springfield 30-06.
It might be a Springfield tarted up with new furniture, not necessarily made by Mauser.
Remember, Private Jackson used one in Saving Private Ryan?
Why couldn’t they find a left handed one for him?

Built on a Mauser 98 receiver. It’s a popular platform. Springfield stole it to build the 1903. Winchester and Ruger copied it.CZ uses it. Many custom gun builders use it as a basis for builds.

A large number of warsurplused Mauser 98s were sporterized and rechambered for 30.06 it was a common practice in the 40s and 50s.

Mauser receivers were/are sold and barreled to whatever caliber is desired.

Very common and very basic gunsmithing.
