I didn’t say the school system was free of blame. But parents need to know they cannot depend entirely on it. We have to let parents know they are not powerless. If their children aren’t learning well in school, they can take control. I didn’t even send my kids to school, and they all learned to read well at home. It wasn’t difficult. It was fun, just as I described in my last post.
Indeed. You didn't mention the school system at all.
Parents and the kids themselves were all you mentioned in your reply.
Where I live the covid lockdowns were great for children. I live in an area with nearly zero single parents. These parents keep an eye on their kids education anyway.
I did mention the school system. I said I’d take those anecdotes from the teachers with a grain of salt. They might be exaggerating. I also mentioned the terrible books given to kids in school. I also said we can’t depend on the school system.
I didn’t blame the kids.
But parents need to know they are their children’s most important teachers. They can sit with their kids and enjoy books together. Don’t worry about grade level, like the teachers are. Let the kids enjoy the books they like, no matter what level (as long as the content is appropriate for children). That way, they learn to love reading. That’s all.
Public schools are ruining the country, yes it’s that bad.
We are dragging our feet on serious reforms.
By the way, I don’t like the school system. I’m always complaining about it.
If a child cannot read and write, either the parents have abdicated their responsibility, or the child has a learning disability that must be addressed.
No mention whatsoever.
I didn’t blame the kids.
...the child has a learning disability that must be addressed.
Uh-huh.
You’re probably right.
Also, I wrote in that post:
"I would take these anecdotal stories from teachers with a grain of salt. They say the kids aren’t reading at grade level? They should be more concerned about the material the kids are reading. Some schools are giving the students pornographic books."
You like to deflect a LOT.
No, I’m not deflecting. I don’t understand why anyone is offended by what I wrote. It’s true... Children can learn to read at home. They don’t even need school to learn to read.
I could read the newspaper when I was 2.
What gives you the impression I'm offended?
I simply believe that you scurry around backtracking, trying to make anything you said earlier sound reasonable after the fact.
Everything I wrote here is reasonable. I shouldn’t have to explain it. Anyway, I think we’re done here.
I believe you. It is possible. One of my kids could read and write by two.
This is the troof!
Good job. Pass it on.
