I did mention the school system. I said I’d take those anecdotes from the teachers with a grain of salt. They might be exaggerating. I also mentioned the terrible books given to kids in school. I also said we can’t depend on the school system.
I didn’t blame the kids.
But parents need to know they are their children’s most important teachers. They can sit with their kids and enjoy books together. Don’t worry about grade level, like the teachers are. Let the kids enjoy the books they like, no matter what level (as long as the content is appropriate for children). That way, they learn to love reading. That’s all.
By the way, I don’t like the school system. I’m always complaining about it.
If a child cannot read and write, either the parents have abdicated their responsibility, or the child has a learning disability that must be addressed.
