"I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS,” President Trump declared Monday in a Truth Social post. Later that day, he promised an executive order “to end mail-in ballots because they are corrupt. You know we are the only country in the world, I believe, I may be wrong, just about, the only country in the world that uses them because of what happened, massive fraud all over the place.”
Trump has remained consistent; even before the 2020 election, he warned: “There is a lot of dishonesty going on with mail-in voting.”
Trump doesn’t need to hedge about voting rules abroad. Poland was the one other country that considered conducting its 2020 presidential election by mail during the pandemic, but even it abandoned the attempt. Countries don’t use the kind of mass mail-in voting now used in eight states – where states automatically send ballots to all registered voters, who then mail them back. That system differs from absentee ballots, which require a request and traditionally demanded a reason, such as being out of town on Election Day.
The United States stands out not only for mail-in ballots but also for its unusually broad use of absentee ballots. Of the 47 European countries, 35 – including France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden – ban absentee voting for citizens living inside the country. Ten others – including England, Ireland, Denmark, Portugal, and Spain – allow it only if voters pick up their ballots in person and present photo ID. Six of those restrict absentee ballots to the military or hospitalized voters, and they require verification from the military or hospital itself. The U.S., by contrast, lets anyone claim they will be out of town and receive a ballot by mail.

The largest data breach in US history, and possibly the world, is the Yahoo breach that affected all three billion user accounts. This breach, which occurred in 2013 but was not disclosed until 2016, involved the theft of names, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, and security questions. Two other Yahoo breaches, also among the largest, impacted an additional 500 million accounts in 2014.
“Finally, I’d make the federal election day a federal holiday so no one would miss work to vote.”
You do realize that plenty of people have to work on federal holidays.
There are lots of people who can't be home to vote in person, not just the military. Lots of people have jobs that are not 9-5 in their county of residence.
No way blue states will give this up. They have a lock on power. It will require an amendment and I’m not sure there are enough states left that care about voting integrity.
If cheating is possible, it is happening. This should be the starting point for the design of any voting system.
Mail-in NEEDS STOPPED YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Mail-in ballots are ripe with fraud. I don’t see that we can eliminate them altogether, but they should be rare.
Florida does it right. They will mail you a ballot if you have signed up. It goes to your address. Postage paid return and you must sign it.
They do examine the ballots by comparing signature.
Once in a primary my wife goofed up ballot. They contacted her and cured the ballot.
They do from time time verify that you are alive and still a legal resident of Florida. They check available databases.
I would not trust New York or California to run this system.
Exactly, it’s up to the states to run the election in their state, and the leftist states will NEVER give this up. As it’s not just the source of their federal power, it’s also the source of their LOCAL power.
Does anyone think CA’s lib super majority would have happened without mail in voting? I mean it’s POSSIBLE, but unlikely. They cheated to get there, and they need to maintain it.
Yes, but I’m suggesting that not be the case. Police, firemen, etc could be allowed a short time off to go vote with polling places letting first responders move to the head of any voting lines.
YES! And get rid of absentee ballots. Want to vote? Schedule a year in advance.
NOTE: This is why Monday and Tue need to be Federal holidays. Get rid of Juneteenth and another federal holiday.
As I said in 2016, put John Lott in charge of the department of election security.
1) Declare Voting Tuesday a Federal Holiday.
2) 3 months before, just like jury duty, all states/counties/cities call candidates for compulsory/mandated polling duties.
3) National Guard ordered to title 10 status and do a MUTA 9 in lieu of NOV/DEC drill.
4) National Guard in all states federalized Friday before Voting Tuesday and guard ballots and machines, even setting them up and cyber testing them/air gapping with assistance from other defense agencies.
5) SAT-SUN: Mandated poll workers (poll sheriff, poll election Officials, poll watchers, law enforcement, enforcement, anyone assisting or authorized by the County or State Commissioners, other persons who have business in the building receive training. They report just like jury duty.
6) MON: National guard deliver ballots and guard overnight at every poll location. Defense/law enforcement test machines and poll officials re-confirm training and verify training and standards.
7) TUE: If you want to vote, vote. Hell, throw in purple finger or blue for DEM, Red for Republican. No absentee (except military/overseas federal workers (DoS/DoD, etc.)). Polls open at 7AM and close at 7PM. You must present proper ID and be registered in your district. Provisional ballot if any requirements not met. National Guard closes poll and protects ballots when counting.
8) WED: National Guard demobilizes once ballots are counted, transported, and certified. Ballots then moved to national guard base in SCIF-like storage for audit/review.
Adendum to above: Monday afternoon or Monday PM reserved for military, first responders, critical workers (teachers, water, sanitation, linemen, etc) and others for early voting. This would replace early voting the week before and absentee voting. Basically you get two (2) chances to vote if you plan ahead. BUT YOU MUST PHYSICALLY appear.
US embassies facilitate states’ use of overseas ballots:

Yep we can go back to the horse and buggy days but that isn’t
going to happen. The world is ever changing be it for good or
bad as we know or see it. Live your three score and ten as best
you can. Prepare for burial or creamation while you are alive.
Arizona LOVES mail-in ballots. It was started by REPUBLICANS as a way to get out the old people vote. It is now used by 80% of Arizonans.
I’d LOVE to get rid of it and go to maybe a week of in person voting plus absentee ballots. But Arizona will NOT do it unless forced to by the feds.
With rare exceptions, voting should be done on Election Day, in person with ID verification, and results posted within 24 hours of poll closing.
“I’d make the federal election day a federal holiday so no one would miss work to vote.”
Hospitals cannot close for a federal holiday. Nor should cops, etc...
Heck if they ever did away with mail in ballots the RATS would never win another election.
