Undercover police officers have started a new campaign to crack down on men catcalling female runners - by posing as joggers themselves.
Surrey Police sent two officers out running at rush hour to show the scale of harassment that women are facing.
'These behaviours may not be criminal offences in themselves, but they need to be addressed,' a spokesman for the force said about the patrols.
The campaign, however, has been criticised by free speech activists who said the police should be focusing on enforcing existing laws.
It comes as reporters from the news outlet LBC joined officers on patrol during the evening rush hour in Reigate, Surrey.
During the operation, plain clothes police officers, who were dressed in athletic jogging gear, headed to areas identified as 'harassment hotspots'.
Meanwhile, specialist units waited nearby to intervene at the first sign of abuse.

True story. In my previous line of work with the federal government ca mid 1980’s, the job often took me into federal, state and local correctional facilities. I was still in my callow youth at the time..,mid 40’s. On one particular ocassion I found myself traversing a Michigan womens’ prison and had to pass through an auditorium. I think the entire inmate population was watching a Ron Jeremy masterpiece. Don’t tell me about catcalls! The only thing that saved me was that I was being escorted by the wardenette!😎

When coppers are cowards and/or have no idea how to fight crime, they come up with CaCa like this.
Strap some sidearms on them and walk thru the bad neighborhoods - that would be more effective law enforcement.
Will they be jogging in the Pakistani neighborhoods?
Did they put in as much effort to stop the pak grooming gangs?

Uhm, as long as there’s no threat, implied or explicit, the ‘cat callers’ have the 1st amendment right to yell out “Whoa momma”, “You’re smoking!”, “What-a-hottie”, etc.
And yet, policie are too busy to respond to mugging, jugging, car theft, or like in Cincinnati, outright ethnic violence.

It’s true. We don’t have to be cads about it, but we are constructed that way.
I understand completely. Men find women attractive (and that is a good thing) but we don’t have to be obnoxious jerks about it, which is what grown men openly oogling and catcalling women like 12 year olds are.
