A zoo in Denmark is asking the public for donations of unwanted small pets or horses to feed its captive predators.
"In zoos, we have a responsibility to imitate the natural food chain of the animals — in terms of both animal welfare and professional integrity," Aalborg Zoo said in a post on social media.
The zoo in northern Denmark said that chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs were an important part of the diet of its predators, which need "whole prey," reminiscent of what they would hunt in the wild.
"If you have a healthy animal that has to leave here for various reasons, feel free to donate it to us. The animals are gently euthanized by trained staff and are afterwards used as fodder. That way, nothing goes to waste — and we ensure natural behavior, nutrition and well-being for our predators," Aalborg Zoo said.
The zoo said it accepts donated rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., but no more than four at a time.
It also accepts horses for feeding its animals, which it says on its website are euthanized by a zookeeper and a veterinarian.

This won’t go over very well.
‘Would be much more useful and helpful to mankind to feed the predators any leftists within range. Anyone giving their pet for food should also be fed to the predators - after spreading attractive smelling food on them.

The average person will go all emotional and feel sorry for the ‘Dinner Guests’. Lions, Tigers and Bears and Iguanas have to eat too!
But few will stick up for the eating rights of the predator.
I would prefer to donate that person to the snakes and wolves.

If they take rodents like rabbits and guinea pigs, aren’t there enough rats in Paris to supply the demand without resorting to pets, even if they are put to sleep first?

Canada geese are the best poop making machine ever! I had to dodge big hunks on the golf courses.
We have a pond in our office park. The geese come every year. I look down before I get out of my truck every morning to make sure I don’t step in goose poop. That is because they like to sleep on the pavement at night.
I took a walk at lunch today around the office park. There were areas that were like walking through a mine field.
Then when I got to the bridge over the pond there were probably 35 geese chilling in the shade of a couple trees.
They’re eating the pets.
How does a “gently euthanized” animal do anything for a “predator”?
I don’t have any small animals to give, but
I’ll give them a Jack Smith and a judge Boasberg , and a piglousy.
course, the predators might not want such putrid pieces of flesh
