An enormous, 515-mile-long flash of lightning that crossed at least three states has been named the longest in recorded history in the world.
The 2017 “megaflash” stretched from eastern Texas to near Kansas City — a distance that would take at least eight hours by car or 90 minutes by commercial plane, according to the World Meteorological Organization. In comparison, the average bolt of lightning usually measures less than 10 miles, according to the National Weather Service.

It does. I got struck twice. First was a lightning ball while I was in the shower. Lost everything plugged in.
Second time a bolt hit a wall and came through a window and knocked me over while sitting at a desk.
Not much damage from that one. Only one lamp.

I remember as a teenager visiting one of my many great-aunts in Asheville, NC.
A thunderstorm started and she loudly warned all of us to stay away from the kitchen.
I later peeked into the kitchen. Small lightning balls were dripping from the faucet, crackling around the sink, and going down the drain.
She says it always does that when it is thundering outside.
From what I have read, during Franklins time, one of the ideas about electricity, was that it was a liquid and flowed as one.
