Medvedev reminds Trump of Russia's Doomsday nuclear strike capabilities as war of words escalates
Reuters Yahoo News ^ | 7/31/2025 | Andrew Osborn

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday told U.S. President Donald Trump to remember that Moscow possessed Soviet-era nuclear strike capabilities of last resort after Trump told Medvedev to "watch his words".

-snip-

"If some words from the former president of Russia trigger such a nervous reaction from the high-and-mighty president of the United States, then Russia is doing everything right and will continue to proceed along its own path," Medvedev said in a post on Telegram.

Trump should remember, he said, "how dangerous the fabled 'Dead Hand' can be," a reference to a secretive semi-automated Russian command system designed to launch Moscow's nuclear missiles if its leadership had been taken out in a decapitating strike by a foe.

As I’ve stated repeatedly prior, Putin should be the least of our concerns in Russia.

‘Regime change’ idiots retain far too much influence.

Medvedev and Putin are acting like the Iranian loudmouths who decided to FAFO with President Trump.

You going to bomb Moscow? Reminder Russia has more nuclear weapons than we do.

Good, hopefully Trump sends a few subs to lurk. It’s one thing to attack Ukraine but Russia directly threatening the homeland should mean Trump directly threatens Moscow. I suspect the American Military can take on the Russian military. If it’s war then fight and fight hard.

“You going to bomb Moscow? Reminder Russia has more nuclear weapons than we do.”

What the Neocons do have going for them is that Moscow is a far bigger loss to Russia than any city in the US is to the United States, at least these days. Maybe they’re trying to play that card?

It should definitely be on the table. Stop being a coward. What did Iran do? What did Russia do to save Syria? Iran is not Iraq we were told before they gave up. If Russia wants war with the US they should know that there will be no rules.

See, you’re no different than the Russians. As soon as it’s clear we can and will escalate you and Russians want no part. Coward

Actually, considering what they’re up against (every asset that the Neocons can send Ukraine)

Well now, if every asset has been sent Trump really can't escalate now can he? Unless you refer to sanctions but I seem to recall you all saying sanctions aren't affecting Russia at all.

Your side was on Russia’s side when President Reagan was in office, too. Some things never change.

Not me, and even Putin has said that ‘sanctions’ was the BEST THING that ever happened to the Russian economy, as it allowed reforms that would have never been possible in the past - particularly, making things at home, rather than simply buying them from Europe and other countries.

They are pretending to be somebody

So, Trump miscalculated in that he apparently believed it would be easy to negotiate because he thought both sides would want to stop the killing.

He thought Putin valued human life the same as he did. He was wrong about that.

My guess is now he is assuming Putin values money and power more than human life and is using the power of the purse as well as using our financial power to reduce the power and money he gets from other countries to hopefully change Putin’s mind.

Trump was mistaken by assuming Putin valued the lives of his countrymen more than power and money.

What we do know about Trump is he learns quickly from his mistakes.

God’s hand will be on the one who seeks peace and values life. Putin will fail because he doesn’t seek either.

“So, Trump miscalculated in that he apparently believed it would be easy to negotiate because he thought both sides would want to stop the killing.”

Both sides did want to stop the killing, providing they got the OTHER SIDE to capitulate. Trump SHOULD have listened to Tulsi on that, rather than Lindsey Graham, who (apparently) told him that if he beat his chest enough, Russia would back down. Tulsi knew otherwise.

...and he certainly implied that he didn’t plan to escalate it,

Teriffs are NOT an escalation.

We have every right to choose what goods we let into OUR COUNTRY and how much cost one must pay to bring them in.

I don’t think that I said they were. Sure, we can PUNISH India an China with sanctions because the Neocons forced Russia to invade Ukraine...but I’m not sure it’s in our interest, but we’ll soon see!

Trump is a problem now. He has decided he will mimic Zelinski and conduct all his diplomacy in front of the assembled mic’s and cameras. That Trump no longer has diplomats conducting negotiations, Trump has decideed to dictate terms to the world. I do not support this endeavor.

What is the difference between Trump and God? God doesn’t think he is Trump.

Except that they don't work anymore.
