The only human being I ever saw play this instrument was Kate St. John

I can sort of play an oboe - also a bassoon, which is another what they call double-reeded woodwind. The bassoon is a great deal lower in pitch.

You just have to be able to squeeze your lips together really hard.

“Oboe: an ill wind that nobody blows good.” — Unknown, sometime around 1929.

They say the heart of rock and roll is still beating
And from what I’ve seen I believe ‘em
Now the oboe may be barely breathing
But the heart of rock and roll, heart of rock and roll is still beating

They say oboe players usually die of a heart attack in their mid 50s.

My niece played the oboe in her high school band. She was good enough to make all state.

It was sheer torture to hear her practice. I played trombone and was a brass man for sure.

My brother has a Masters degree in Musical Performance with the oboe.

I called it his Degree in unemployment.

He works as an investment banker now.

I was talking to my investment guy and mentioned that I saw his name in a book. He told me he was also in the movie.

I’m not a muscian, but I love hearing many types of music.
A young Flautist told me that when using a flute, you lightly exhale across the top opening of the instrument: Like blowing on an opening of an empty Pop Bottle to create a sound.
Whereas, with an Oboe, you blow directly down, into that instrument.

I enjoyed what I think are Oboes in
Mozart’s Flute & Harp Concerto in C, K299.

Oboes best be out of town on the next train if they know what’s good for them.

All oboe players are psychotic, because the back pressure bursts blood vessels in the brain.

Yes, I can play oboe. I choose not to.

"...Oboe: an ill wind that nobody blows good..."

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

But, I love the sound of a well played Oboe or Bassoon. Then again, I enjoy well played bagpipes, too! (Bagpipes do cause some people to rip their hair out, no matter how well played!)

"The Pipes! The Pipes!"

I started playing the clarinet in 7th grade . My music teacher in school switched me to the oboe, played it all through my senior year. Tough little instrument.

Lol. You make it sound like a

“Friends don’t let friends
play Oboes!”

situation.

The oboe is pleasant enough to hear when fully orchestrated with other instruments. It takes an amazing amount of skill to make those things play the notes intended.

While my niece was first learning, it sounded like someone was trying to push a pencil up a duck's butt.

Then don't come out to the lake at dusk when I'm scaring the loons.

Hahahahaha...my cats never, ever appreciated my saxophone, either.

As soon as the case was opened, their ears flattened and they disappeared!

“”Bagpipes do cause some people to rip their hair out, no matter how well played!””

I am one of those - also pipe organs - drunk cats on a keyboard!

If it can’t be whistled or sung - it’s not music!!
