That might work while Trump is in office, but would probably blow up once he’s out, and someone less fiscally conservative is in.

Property tax is a consideration in the amount paid for rent.

Additionally, if you’re really in Ohio, I think you get to vote on individual measures that go into the property tax, at least we do in my part of the State. Sometimes you win the vote and sometimes you lose.

Other methods of collecting the money will likely reduce your ability to have a say.

I’ve been complaining on FR years about this. It has been in the family five generations but we’re still “renting” from the government. Property tax when we moved in was only 2 weeks of income and had been low for forever. We’ve downsized and have eliminated “improvements” and notified them to decrease the taxes - yeah, that never happened. Same job all this time but taxes in recent years have skyrocketed to 4+ months of income. Why? How could that have been foreseen? All the old families sold out during the Californian invasion.

“Sales tax is a fave, or a flat tax on income. “Let’s talk” about it.”

Don’t you get to vote on property taxes in Georgia and thereby have an input into the tax amount?

Would a sales tax or flat tax on income allow that?

If you had a sales tax would it be statewide or by county?

If it was statewide, would counties with more need for funding get help from counties with less need, to the detriment of the latter?

If it was by county, to the detriment of that county, would people make purchases outside their county to get a lower tax rate?

Property taxes falls under the 10th amendment of county control. Feds have no say.

There are a couple other angles to this.

First property tax is a tax on unrealized gains and it is a tax on inflation.

Second, think about this. Some dink in local government works(?), gets paid, and pays an income tax on its labor. Once.

A homeowner who builds his own house gets taxed on his same labor year after year after year.

Fed Gov has no business in this .
States rights, they decide, not DC.

He got the idea from DeSantis.

Americans have been screaming about and demanding property tax relief for many decades, probably before DeSantis was born.

It's just more government seizure of assets. How bad is it? They'll seize the homes of veterans/citizens who've been paying ever increasing property taxes for 30-40+ years. Even if they finally pay off their homes, they still have to rent it from corrupt ever growing government who shower themselves with their government gold plated pensions and tax paid fat incomes.

Most states use property tax to finance teachers union bosses & administrators lavish salaries & life styles with some small portion going to kids just so they can ask for more in the next fiscal year.
