It’s not his call. I want no more property taxes but then I would also abolish the public schools. People in my state want it the way it is.

THIS is the primary driver to me - I don’t like ‘renting’ my paid-for property from my county.

I get it they need the money, and in fact our county govt does a good job. Find another way to fund the budget and I’ll consider it. Sales tax is a fave, or a flat tax on income. “Let’s talk” about it.

If he can get this passed in a bill he wins the midterms that simple. My Mom pays 18,000 for property taxes for this house alone and its absolutely RIDICULOUS. This is HER property yet she has to pay property taxes for it every year which goes to what, feeding illegals, no thanks

Does the power to tax property fall within the police power of the states?
No. The power to tax property is not solely a part of the police power of the states. While the police power is broad and encompasses regulations for public health, safety, and welfare, the power to tax is a separate and inherent sovereign power of the states. Both the federal and state governments have the power to tax, but they do so under different constitutional provisions and for different purposes.
Here’s a breakdown:
Police Power:
This is the state’s authority to regulate behavior and enforce order within its territory to protect the public’s health, safety, morals, and general welfare. It includes things like zoning laws, building codes, and environmental regulations.
Taxing Power:
This is the power to levy taxes, which is a distinct power granted to both the federal government and the states by the Constitution.
Hail, all, our new robot judges!
I suppose the question becomes, how does the fed abolish property taxes, through what power?

The property tax is an abomination. The government is effectively seizing a portion of your property each year. Here, it is around 3%. So after about 33 years they have taken approximately the full value of your property.

So it isn’t YOUR property after all.

Good luck. Local issue.

With the imposition of property taxes, local government magically transferred ownership of all land to itself and magically transformed all landowners into renters.

Sounds kind of shady to me.

I misread the headline: I thought it said Trump wants more property taxes across the US.

North Dakota actually put this to a state referendum vote.

Two-thirds of voters voted against it.

Good point.
However. Ya never know with this President.
I like the thought and he seems to accomplish what others haven’t or even haven’t tried.
😊

My understanding is that with the BBB the deduction will be so large that most seniors won’t pay any tax on their SS.

I don’t recall the reason why, but apparently they couldn’t legislate eliminating the tax altogether.

How is that the business of the federal government?

(Though it certainly would be great for those in the RE biz.)

And, of course, it would likely very much favor the wealthy by shifting the burden to those who don’t own much but are working to make an income.

He got the idea from DeSantis.
