The original poster notes that the couple will ultimately pocket more than the cost of the venue if everyone pays.
In a viral Reddit post on the platform's /weddingshaming thread, an unhappy guest detailed how a couple informed attendees that everyone's accommodations for a destination wedding were "taken care of" and that they'd only be responsible for flights and transportation. Then, two months before the wedding, the bride told each guest they needed to pay $500 for their stay on the "large estate" that the couple booked for the big day.

Ba da bump. He’ll be here all night. Tip your waiter, try the veal.
What if some of them decided to stay at Motel 6 and just commute over to the wedding on the day instead ???

“reception held at a place like a K of C are long gone.”
Sounds like you lived a privileged life. My reception was in the church basement.
“Men want to BE married.”
And have affairs on the side.
Best wedding I ever attended was ten people. Itâs one of the few marriages among my circle that didnât last.
My daughter just got married. 100 guests. Just over $10,000.
That is very true.
“...they needed to pay $500 for their stay on the “large estate” that the couple booked for the big day...”
I’d tell them FU..eat the cost yourselves.
Yup—a separate message should be sent to the groom.
Run!
Now!
We had our reception at the church hall, catered by the churchâs Ladies Aid.
Ours was similar. Small church, church ladies did the reception. Hubby worked with a lady that also worked at a bakery on weekends. She baked the cake as a wedding gift. My aunt worked at a bridal shop so she made my wedding dress as a gift.
My older sister was my bridesmaid and I got her dress off the sale rack at Macy’s for $10. The most expensive thing was the flowers and that bill was about $100 at the local florist. Our HS band director was a photographer and he did a great job with the pictures (for free). After almost 50, we have a framed picture still on the wall.
It was a sweet wedding and I’m so glad I didn’t burden my parents with a demand for an expensive wedding (they would have laughed in my face anyway-—we were poorer than the mice at the church).
Our wedding 1961...suits and ties, skirts and heels, me, bride, my parents, her parents, my sister, best man, brides maid, minister. 5 minutes in church foyer. $150 magnificent meal for all at Ox Yoke Inn Amana, Iowa. Just celebrated 64 years.
When America was still America.
Congrats!
I'm so conditioned to expect today's prices that at first I thought $150 magnificent meal for all was per person. But yeah, a large group's bill back then was the crazy extravagant sum of $150.
Got off work in the morning after 11:00 - 7:00 a.m. shift, showered, put suit on, JP at courthouse. Had lunch, then back to bed before the night shift. Next morning started “honeymoon” - drove the ALCAN South from AK back when it wasn’t completely paved, gravel road in Southern Yukon/Northern B.C.....
And have affairs on the side.
That's called "Looking married." His wedding ring forestalls the other women from expecting a commitmemt any time soon. The really dumb bimbos expect him to leave his wife anyway. The wife can solve that problem by telling them, when they confront her on FB, which number they are in the line.
My daughter got married at LakeLouise Canada and people can from all over the world destination weddings are fun for all.
Iâve been noticing a lot more vehicles with self-centered couples on the road asking for money to buy the bride and groom drinks with a Venmo account painted on their windows.
Still open!
“the bride told each guest they needed to pay $500 for their stay on the “large estate” that the couple booked for the big day.”
At that point I’d be dispatching my “regrets.”
