The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will soon start a massive advertising blitz to encourage uptake of wearables such as fitness trackers among Americans, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said on June 24.

“We’re about to launch one of the biggest advertising campaigns in HHS history to encourage Americans to use wearables,” Kennedy said on Capitol Hill in Washington during a congressional hearing.

Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Ohio) spoke positively about what he described as innovative wellness tools and asked Kennedy to describe how the government is promoting access to such tools.

If you look around, you can see that many, many folks are wearing the I Watch clones that are de facto fitness devices.

Even young waitresses are wearing them and are quite conscious of their daily numbers of steps. One proudly told me so.

It can be argued that the DHS announcement is actually recognition of the already existing condition.

“ That’s the risk. If you can’t get honesty from government, can you really expect to get honesty from Consumer Reports, regardless of what they say in their ads to get you to buy the magazine or any private publication?” Consumer Reports is too expensive.

I’m wearing a wearable shirt, which says “EIB” on the front. I’m also wearing wearable khaki pants, loafers and socks, and,oh yeah, wearable underwear. What am I missing?

I blasted him on X about this, a long with thousands of others. I believe he’s probably got the message. Thing is, those of us who refused the vaxx are probably the majority of the folks who also won’t wear one of these things. My phone is bad enough, and I drive a 25 year old KIA just to avoid all the crap in the new cars.

Remember RFK,jr thought authoritarian statists like Castro, Chavez and Maduro were cool. (Yes he made past public statements of support for them. Don’t believe me? Look it up!) So advocating such a level of surveillance and control doesn’t surprise me.

What am I missing?

The context around the posted article and reference to the term, "wearable."

Just be glad that they are still talking about wearables, and not already about implantables.

When chronic diseases account for most illness, disability, and death in the country and are the leading drivers of health care costs give me the discounted premium and more accurate underwriting for healthy lifestyles. That needs to be the norm again. Bring it on.

It’s a Fitbit or equivalent.

I love having mine. Tells me how much I’ve walked. It measures my heart rate.
It measures my sleep.

I’ve had one for over 10 years.

A local government entity went all in on step counters. Some of the engineers I worked with would take them to Home Depot and put them in the paint shaker for a couple minutes.

My Fitbit measures my heart rate so I know if I’m raising it enough during my exercise.

It measures how long my bike rides are so if I want to start riding longer I know what to aim for.

I also found out it’s a good way to know I’m sick before symptoms. My heart rate shot up the day before I was symptomatic with Covid. I knew I was over it when my heart rate went down.
