You have more to fear from the USPS than the IRS. (vanity)

This actually falls under the "you won't believe this" section, but I felt it was worth sharing.

You should have sent it Insured, for the amount of your refund.

That would get their attention upon “loss”.

That was a long, long time ago. These days, the inverse is much more applicable and plausible.

Incompetence, D.E.I. affirmative actions are smokescreens to hide behind purposeful, malicious actions as well. I’ve seen this many times in government. It nearly takes an act of congress to fire incompetent individuals. They know this. Others make it their hobby to cause as much destruction and headache as possible. This is entertainment for them.

Fed Ex is no better. They lost a package that I drove to their airport office in the hope of helping it arrive on time. It never left that spot according to their site.
After 3 weeks they refunded the postage paid. On week 5 it showed up to where I was sending it (after I cancelled accounts) and then they sent me a bill!

For years I did my own relatively complicated return with turbotax I was audited Several times Mostly over nothing at all. I started my business 30 years ago And decided I didn’t have the time or the inclination to do my own taxes any longer Even though the preparation time is the bulk of it. I got an accountant Who was an enrolled examiner I think they actually know more about taxes than the CPA. The amount of continuing education they are required to take Keeps them very current. Their returns Seem to carry a message of competence. Touch wood, i have not bee audited in 30 years so far. My taxes are still complicated now that I am retired but they are much simpler now but I still use an Enrolled Examiner to do them. It is worth every penny to my mind.

My husband & I have always used Turbotax. After his death in Feb. 2022, I filed his taxes along with the appropriate form for filing for a deceased person with no issue. Since he had 2 months of income in 2023, I again filed his taxes. Shortly thereafter I started receiving letters from the IRS saying they needed an additional 60 days to look into my “inquiry.” I sent the taxes to Ogden, Utah. I got letters from Ogden, from Austin, Philadelphia & Fresno. All to the same effect. Nothing. Finally I got one saying they’d lost his forms & sent me a new one to complete, which I did. Still no final refund. I had to get help from my congressman’s office, finally. That worked...eventually.

My daughter sent her grandmother a wedding invitation that only needed to travel to the adjacent zip code. Grandmother got the invitation a year late. I get Christmas cards year round now because the USPS forced retirement on so many older employees to pull off the 2020 mail in ballot election steal.

I agree with all the posts about the inefficiency and ineptness that fills the USPS. I must confess to having been an insider for 23 years. A risky statement to be made is that DEI was the post office before it was cool. Nepotism was the post office. The sanctity of the mail was not stressed. The post office is not better than those hired to do the jobs. And the bigger the community you lived in the more problems there are. Those silly rules about not handling mail over the counter to box holders exist because there are many who would hand your mail to anyone who asked. There are so many ways for mail to get lost. Too many to count the ways. One of them on the top 10 are you are sick or on vacation and the person covering for you has never done that job before. Chaos! I don’t think Ben Franklin envisioned big metropolitan areas like NY, Chicago, Denver, and LA when he devised his system. Mail delivery works best the fewer steps between you and your mail carrier.

I am most concerned about the role of the USPS stealing elections with late arriving mail in ballots.

I’d still contact the IRS - could have been some rouge postal employee selling private information and ‘in the know’ about tacking

Personal checks are stolen so that the recipient’s name and amount may be “washed”, and then filed in by the thief.

Your paper return is digitized as soon as it is received by thr IRS.

That doesn't mean shit. I am 67 and have never had a problem with IRS until this year. I filed a 1040SR form and sent it in via snail mail. It was a rather simple tax form. Just retirement income and some interest earned. Evidently, whom ever reviewed my tax form decided to void my senior citizens standard discount. I got a letter saying I owed a couple of hundred bucks. It took me about half a day to resolve the issue over the phone a couple of weeks ago. I still haven't received official notification in the mail officially negating their mistake. It is not a big deal, but gives a little insight on how the IRS is currently working. I will say the IRS workers I finally contacted were cordial and friendly, but had no power to correct a minor dispute over the phone. The phone person said her supervisors agreed with me, but it still had to go a review panel for certification. This over a $200 dispute. Not a $2K or +$20K dispute...

I’ve had similar problems with the USPS which is why I now use FedEx.

Last year I sent a small package via FedEx from here in Virginia to a friend who lives in a small town to the west of St Louis. It was sent on a Wednesday and was supposed to arrive Sunday.

The package found its way to Pennsylvania where it stayed for three days. Then it went to some place in Ohio for over a day then ended up in another Ohio facility for a day. Both locations were next to the turnpike.

It hen ended up in Effingham, Illinois for another whole day, another day at somewhere east of St Louis, then another day on the west side of St Louis before finally arriving at my friend's home.

I have been reamed hard by USPS and a few times with FedEx, but only twice with UPS, so that is what I mostly use.

I don’t ever intend to use FedEx if I can help it. More than half of my packages have been delivered elsewhere. I received a package that was supposed to be delivered to another county, and I followed the FedEx truck across the mountain on my way to deliver it. *&$#%^&*(

I question how much money you are saving, unless you valued your time and peace of mind as $0/hour.

Saving by doing what?
