I have been using this TP-Link router for 9 years. In the beginning years, it ran without any problems or freezes. Last 6 months, it froze once every day like clockwork. Every morning I had to reboot by unplugging and plugging power. Usually it only froze once every day. On rare occasions it froze twice in a day but that was rare. I was getting ready to buy a new one thinking it is just getting old..
But.... Strangely, during last two weeks it has not frozen or crashed even once! Nothing has changed. Same PC's and phones and security cameras in place for ever. Every morning I check if wi-fi is on, and to my surprise it is running. I am totally confused. I am guessing something changed by Xfinity.
TP-Link is owned by chy-na. Use at your own risk.
Invest in a new router.
9 years…time to update.
So I named it “DNR Wireless” and he made me change it again.
I then named it “Unobtrusive Van” and he told me I was not allowed to name things any more.
Probably all routers use Chinese chips. But you are right TP-Link is a Chinese outfit.
But a billion of yiur Dell computers would give China a lot of computer.
hard wire connection.
Yes, I changed it from “admin” to my own. Also changed the wi-fi password. That was a big job, since all PC’s, Phones, Security camera etc needed passwords changed. The security camera is mounted neat roof line, I had to climb up on ladder to take a picture of QR-code to change password for camera.
I suspect that 6 months ago you got a bad firmware update that messed everything up.
You probably got a new update recently that fixed everything.
Many routers install firmware automatically.
I sometimes use a 12 year old Dell laptop that is for a few old games every so often.
A CMOS battery and a HDD is all I ever did to it.
Still Windows 7 and it does NOT talk to any network and only on when I play a game.
It has sat for weeks at times.
Get rid of wifi, go hard wire.
Does the router have a log file?
I should name mine “Hillary’s Email Server” so the govt won’t spy on me.
Is it the same router you’ve been using for nine years? You might need a new one.
“Just dawned on me, I switched to a cheaper internet promotion plan last month, and no more router freezing!”
That is probably it, they most likely did a firmware update on it and are now using different IP addresses and such.
That is profound. Good job. Is it an orginal?
You can learn more on a day on FR than you can all day with the "news".

Yep, the provider can do it with plan changes Etc.
if you been surfing sources for replacement router, it may have seen that or even heard when you were cursing about it. on the other hand it’s always been a rule that one shouldn’t let an electronic device realize that you’re in a hurry or frustrated.
