Must have been one of those bears modern women would prefer to a male human being, for reasons of safety.

An awful way to go...
A serious bear hunting season is needed in FL...
Gators, bears, and pythons are all in need of extinction...

We are not allowed to shoot bears in Florid. Every time the Bear Hunt comes up, the animal rights nuts go berserk.............
Needless to say we are up to our ears in black bears......
BRAVE AI:
Shooting Bears Illegal in Florida
As of May 10, 2025, hunting black bears in Florida is a contentious issue. While hunting was banned in 1994, a limited hunt was authorized in 2015, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has proposed issuing permits for the hunting of another 187 bears later this year.
However, this move has sparked significant backlash from wildlife advocates, and a petition with over 31,000 signatures has been submitted against it.
Current Status:
Hunting Permits: The FWC has proposed issuing permits for the hunting of 187 bears, but this is currently under review and faces opposition.
Legal Protections: In June 2024, Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, signed a bill that loosened protections for black bears.
This indicates that while there is a proposal to allow bear hunting, it is not universally accepted and is currently a topic of debate.

Well, except for the gators, crocs, pythons, bears, Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes, Pygmy Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, Cottonmouths and Coral Snakes, coyotes, hornets, wasps and malaria mosquitoes, eastern equine encephalitis mosquitoes, and various other disease bearing mosquitoes, Lyme Disease ticks and chiggers it’s fairly safe................

I was in Canada years ago fishing in upper Ontario. Saw bears all the time. But while there heard about a bear that roamed into a Boy Scout camp late at night about 50 miles from where I was and killed a young scout. Apparently, the kid had some food in his tent and the bear decided to take it. The kid kid got in the way and it did not end well.
For the silly urbanites out there who have Walt Disney ideas about wildlife.. Bears are not cute. They are at the top of the food chain unless you have some serious firepower.

I’m not a Scout, but even I know to not ever keep food in your tent in bear country. If yo have to keep food, hoist it up a tree limb about 15 feet high, well away from where you sleep...................

Hell, I don’t know what the kid had, might have been a stupid candy bar, but that was enough on that night with that bear. You never know.

Open carry is legal here when fishing, hunting and camping. A 9mm would work fine on Yogi.

Near cans are the thing these days. No sellable in your tent or on your person. No late night snacks. Not even toothpaste.

the first ursine killing in state history. Maybe first since the environmentalists swore no wolf, coyote or black bear ever attacked a human.
