WW International, formerly known as WeightWatchers, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday in a bid to cut its debt after Ozempic and other hugely popular obesity drugs upended its business model.
Shares of the company, which once boasted of media mogul Oprah Winfrey as one of its top shareholders, slumped 40% in extended trading after announcing plans to file for bankruptcy as part of a reorganization plan with a group of its lenders.
WeightWatchers began as weekly weight-loss support group meeting with 400 attendees, and quickly turned into a worldwide phenomena with millions of members across the globe.
But the rising popularity of GLP-1 drugs such as Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Eli Lilly’s Zepbound hit demand for its traditional weight-loss programs.
It also acquired a telehealth provider to provide weight-loss drugs in 2023, but reported a loss of $345.7 million last year, while its subscription revenues fell 5.6% year-over-year.
WW said the reorganization plan will eliminate $1.15 billion in debt from the company’s balance sheet. The company has accumulated substantial debt of around $1.6 billion.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Is ozempic ultimately safe or not? In the long term that is. Something tells me it’s to good to be true. Opinions?
Hell no. All kinds of negative shit happens. Get on youtube and search.
It’s probably safe enough for small amounts of weight-loss with a few months of recovery at a time, while you are learning new habits.
That’s how it should ge, I think.
(WeightWatchers, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection)
Guess they’ll have to slim down
Cut out the fat
Maybe 🤔 skip some meals
Tighten their belts
That’s the skinny
So, is ‘ozempic’ the result of technology marching on or just another example of our ‘immediate gratification’ society where many folks are not willing to put in the hard work to achieve worthy goals ... ??
I suspect it is not. It is too early to tell, but early anecdotal evidence is against it.
I saw where I could mess with your face.
Chance of recovery is slim.
Fat chance.
If I understand this correctly, WeightWatchers is not shutting down. It filed for Chapter 11 to restructure its $1.15 billion debt while continuing to operate.
The goal is to reposition the business for long-term growth, especially by expanding into digital health and weight-loss medications like Ozempic and Wegovy. This is a strategic pivot, not a liquidation.
I would also recommend that it drop the calorie-counting approach in favor of low carb.
In addition to fat you lose muscle mass.
Drugs are not the answer. Self-control is.
Too much waist, too big to fail..
The writing was on the whale.
This marks the beginning of a future health crisis where people will rely on medications for obesity rather than eating healthy foods in reasonable portion sizes to maintain their weight.
They need to trim some fat.

I read an article where Ozempic was called a “wonder drug” that has many applications beyond weight loss. Previously I was a bit leery of it but when I start hearing wonder drug I’m fairly sure it’s gonna blow up in a lot of faces. I’d guess that it’s indicated for people who’s over weight has them with one foot in the grave.
