Nearly 100 volunteers, rescue personnel join desperate search for missing NY Democrat

Nearly 100 volunteers and rescue personnel showed up on Long Island Saturday to continue the frantic search for a missing political candidate who inexplicably vanished last month.

Splitting off into pairs, the volunteers set out at 7 a.m. to canvas and comb through Long Beach, where Petros Krommidas, 29, was last seen on April 23 when he went for a training swim, cops and family said.

Soon after he went missing, police found the Krommidas’ locked car by the Allegria Hotel, just near the beach he had regularly visited to train for a triathlon, his family added.

Krommidas – a Democrat who is running for a seat on the Nassau County Board of Legislators – reportedly appeared to have taken a towel with him on the day he disappeared.

“We’re sending people out with flyers, we’re going to go and canvas the area between Atlantic Beach and Lido Beach and Point Lookout,” Republican County Executive Bruce Blakeman told reporters from the beach’s parking lot Saturday afternoon.

The efforts included ATVs, drones and helicopters, and members of the Marine Bureau in boats, according to Blakeman, who ordered the mobilization of Nassau’s Community Emergency Response Team Thursday.

Either the guy drowned or was attacked by a shark, or - less likely - he just decided to disappear. If the former, he is long dead and the most they can hope to find is a dead body.

To the democrats, that’s all that matters.

He will vote many times and in many places for decades to come if he isn’t among the living.

Even among the living, he probably did anyway.

Goodness knows strong swimmers have been lost at sea close to shore for a variety of reasons.

"Pitty the shark! Food poisoning!"

After I wrote shark attack and posted it, loan shark attack came to mind. With RATS you never know.

Ford Prefect is also a character in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy that advised Arther Dent to always have a towel. It was a most useful item. Ford Prefect and Arthor Dent hitched a ride on a Vogon ship as they destroyed the Earth.

Don't panic.

Buy yourself a copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, and read it.

You can thank me later, at the restaurant at the end of the universe...

I was 12 when I got caught in the rip-tide. My father was waving for me to follow him as he walked along the shore. I swam parallel to the water until I no longer felt like I was fighting an unstoppable force. The waves started bringing me back in, but I was so exhausted that when I tried to stand up, the undertow would knock me down. I got rolled several times, swallowing water and getting it into my lungs.

My father swam out and brought me in.

Puking up beach water ranks among the top 10 nastiest things I experienced.

We weren’t down by Long Beach: this was Jones Beach in the 1970s.

I never told my mom. She was such a helicopter mom, she would have banned us from the beach.

After my husband and I got married, we would go to Kismet. Quiet, family friendly. Jones Beach had turned into a trash-filled mess populated by some of the rudest people.

We left NY in 1995. The only things I miss are the museums and the beach.

They should get some fish and ask a dolphin if they’ve seen him.
