@WallStreetApes

A 16 piece meal at KFC is over $55. How can a bucket of chicken be over $50 dollars… Everything on this menu is so expensive

Who is buying this, who can afford this? People on EBT?

I’m intrigued what a good steak meal for 2 costs.

We had Texas Roadhouse a month ago and paid about $135 for five adults to eat and leave a nice tip. Worked out to $27/each.

One of my favorite recipes is to take mojo chicken cut up and mix with rice and beans. I use all kinds of rice: white, yellow, Spanish, etc and basic black beans with onions.

Why would people on EBT be able to afford it?

Maybe you should write a letter to your buddy. /s

Ironically, local reports have homeless buying cases of bottled water here and dumping it all in the parking lot for the 10-cent deposit. The reports suggest drugs.

Unmentioned: On the main drag in front of that walmart is a KFC.

Coinkidink? /s

Related: A local meat market makes their own jerky, which qualifies for EBT. Best in the state. Expensive, too. I rarely partake, and usually only a strip or two at a time.

When I had dogs, I’d frequent the market for the meat ingredients of their food. Didn’t take long to see people in front of me at checkout buying the jerky 1-2 pounds at a time at a certain time of the month...and paying for it with SNAP/EBT (ongoing, per observations).

We usually get the Lemon Pepper chicken, as it seems that’s all that’s left by the time we get there... Got to try the Mardi Gras once. We also get the SmokeHouse BBQ beans, but apparently, not all Publix’ have that style...

I agree Biden was the worst, ever. Even Carter.

Yesterday my wife and I had Fish sandwiches at a local restaurant. You get only one side, so we each had a fish sandwich and NO drinks save free water, I got slaw my wife got fries and we split.

38 FING dollars …this inflation doesn’t seem to be slowing.
But yes totally, Trump has only been in for a few months. He needs time….but he also has to do something. This year, next year.

A whole 4.5 pound chicken at Safeway is $13.50. That's enough for four meals, about $3.50 per meal.

I brined and cooked a spatchcocked chicken on the grill yesterday. I probably spent another $3 for salt, sugar, spices, onion, herbs, and garlic for the brine plus the mayo, rosemary and parsley for the coating on the chicken before BBQing. We had roasted asparagus which was another $5. That's about $7.50 per person for dinner last night and we have a lot of chicken left over.

Of course, there was a fair amount of labor required. (a "fair amount" he says! ha!)

Out of the brine, ready for the grill...

On the grill...

Dinner time!

Well it is basically 2 whole chickens, and 8 biscuits, and 4 large sides. It’s a LOT of food. $55 is actually pretty cheap.

Ironically I just had this conversation with my wife. My response was the same, people on EBT.

I picked up an 8-piece fried chicken at Safeway for $4.99.

Where are all the deficit hawks praising the federal revenue the tariffs are generating? Tariffs are expect to reduce the deficit by $400 billion per year.

Thank you.

We ate at Longhorn Steakhouse. She had a 6oz. filet, baked potato, salad, and diet coke. I had a 12oz. Ribeye, baked potato salad, and water. They served a loaf of fresh bread for us to share. Total: $58.50. I tipped excessively, half card and half cash reckoning how servers have to put up with today’s public and the drama of restaurant life.

Have not had that kind of meal since 2023, and probably won’t do that again soon. A couple scrambled eggs with toasted bagel suits me fine.

KFC has priced itself out of the market.

ALSO, the quality of their food is spotty. Sometimes its good and sometimes its leftovers.

If I’m going to pay that much for a meal, it better be THE BEST KFC I ever had.

Since half the time its not, I can’t take the chance with my money.

Mardi Gras is very good if you want a little spice. The funny thing with all of the price increases is the large disparity between home cooked meals. For example, my local Italian restaurant used to charge $45 for a large tray of baked ziti. Now it’s $140! For our last gathering, I made a big tray myself, even kicked it up with chopped sausages, and my all in cost was under $25 for the same large tray. It tasted better than the restaurant version. Same thing with home made pizza. Some poster mentioned over $45 for a large pie and a few root beers at Pizza Hut. If you have a good pizza stone and make your own, it’s under $10 all in with a better pizza. Same for a good steak. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this large a disparity between home cooked and the restaurant pricing, but people seem to be ok paying for it. Not me. We’ve cut back on outdoor dining considerably. Not because we can’t afford it but because it’s offensive when we can make it ourselves for so much cheaper.

Not to mention (but I will...), how bad restaurant food is compared to what it was before Covid, especially pizza!

A 12oz Ribeye! You really treated yourself. I can’t say I blame you it sounded lovely. I’m away next week I might indulge and have a decent meal somewhere although regrettably not many steak houses where I’m going it’s more Indian cuisine (curry, etc).
