Former Dem congressman suggests Shedeur Sanders fell in NFL Draft because 'America fears strong black men'

After NFL quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders was not selected in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday, many critics debated why on social media.

Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman joined the debate Friday, suggesting the reason Sanders slid was because "America continues to fear strong black men." Bowman also compared the 23-year-old quarterback to former NFL star Eli Manning, who refused to play for the San Diego Chargers after being selected with the No. 1 pick in 2004.

"The NFL doesn’t like [Shedeur]Sanders because he wears gold chains and talks like a rapper. They don’t care that he’s a leader, intelligent, tough and completed 77% of his passes with no O-line and no running game. He’s entitled but Eli Manning wasn’t entitled when he refused to be drafted by San Diego?" Bowman wrote on X.

"He’s not athletic, but that didn’t stop Joe Montana, Drew Brees or Tom Brady. America continues to fear strong black men who come from means and have a strong sense of themselves without submitting to the 'dominant' culture."

Bowman added in the video that he expects the Cleveland Browns to select Sanders with the first pick of the second round Friday night.

"It's the way Shedeur dresses. It's the way he talks, and it's his culture, in my opinion. You see him at the draft last night. He's wearing all black. He got the L chain on, and he talks like a rapper," Bowman said.

Excuse me - I saw the first 3 draft picks… they all wore bling and looked and talked like rappers…

Could it be the NFL doesn't want another one of these?

Yeah, because no strong black guys have been selected in the draft yet.

That’s gotta be it.

Cleveland: the quarterback graveyard of the NFL.

I heard on a draft radio show that Sanders didn't have much zip on his throws in the combine. That dropped him down the list.

What a clown. I guess Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, Ashton Jeanty etc. are not “strong black men” in his eyes.

Shedeur has talent and ability but apparently his talent level isn’t enough for teams to counterbalance the risk of investing hundreds of millions and making an entitled prima donna with an overbearing dad the face of your franchise.

Dion put out a list of teams he didn’t want Shadeur to play for!

Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round (199th pick) of the 2000 draft.

Joe Montana was drafted in the 3rd round (82nd pick) of the 1979 draft.

Joe Theismann was drafted in the 4th round (99th pick) of the 1971 draft.

Bart Starr was drafted in the 17th round (199th pick) of the 1956 draft.

Roger Staubach was drafted in the 10th round (129th pick) of the 1964 draft.

If anything is not Trump’s fault, it must be because of “racism.”

Yep either his mobility isn’t all it’s cracked up to be or his decision-making skill isn’t up to par to either find the open man or throw it away to avoid the sack.

Well be fair, he wasn’t available to play until 1970.

Plus, without Deion, how will he do?

If it were the 5th Round, I’d take a flyer on him.

My take is high ranking NFL QBs have to be able to stay in the pocket and take the occasional nasty hit for doing so. I know nothing about Sander’s career at UC, but evidently the scouts see potential flaws with his game. Joe Montana went in the third round and proceeded to smash a lot of records at the time.

All the inside reporting was that his interviews were horrible, and that he was "arrogant". A key part of those interviews is "whiteboarding", where they put plays and defenses up on a board and ask the quarterback about what he would do in a given situation, etc..

My guess is that he basically punted on the whiteboarding, told teams he didn't do things that way, and that he was a guy who just saw and reacted the right way on the field. If he refused to whiteboard -- something every QB does during that process -- it would have been a massive red flag.

Losing to mediocre organizations are not operated to be successful, but to operate for the benefit and pleasure of those who operate it, kinda like the swamp bureaucracy.

From a monetary standpoint, it would be nigh impossible to lose money running an NFL franchise.

The Cowboys are run to keep Jerry happy, kinda like a kid with his toy model train set that he can’t stop tinkering with.

The Falcons wouldn’t hire Belechik because it made those entrenched in the organization uncomfortable and the eighty year old owner evidently chose keeping his building running smoothly over taking a risk at winning something.

If you watch the NFL, then you know there are a lot of lousy QB’s.

Sanders is a fairly good decision maker as opposed to Will Levis who was the worst decision maker that I have ever seen as a starting QB.

Tension is not a bad thing if ownership at the top is strong enough to manage it.

George Steinbrenner successfully won World Championships because he wasn’t afraid of tension and in fact encouraged it.

Although I’m not a fan of any thing Chicago.

Da 1985 Bears won the Super Bowl because Papa Bear evidently convinced two guys who absolutely hated each other to work together for one more year.

Those two being Mike Ditka and Buddy Ryan.

So its been forty years since da Bears won a Super Bowl.

Sanders has baggage evidently poor to mediocre teams are unwillingly to take a risk on.

But that is what losers do, never take the risk that has the most upside.
