Once again, Zillow has downgraded its 12-month forecast for national home prices. On Wednesday, Zillow economists published their updated forecast model, projecting that U.S. home prices, as measured by the Zillow Home Value Index, will fall 1.7% between March 2025 and March 2026.
Back in March, Zillow downgraded its 12-month outlook for U.S. home prices to +0.8%. In February, Zillow downgraded its 12-month outlook to +1.1%. And at the start of the year in January, Zillow’s 12-month national home price forecast was +2.9%.
Why does Zillow keep downgrading its national home price outlook? |
Fast Company Newsletters “The rise in [active] listings is fueling softer price growth, as greater supply provides more options and more bargaining power for buyers,” Zillow economists wrote in March. “Potential buyers are opting to remain renters for longer as affordability challenges suppress demand for home purchases.”

They will self-deport.
They are being kicked out of HUD housing.
Their illiteracy will keep them from a living wage.
They are losing their Medicaid.
No more social security.
No more free food.
When a few mayors get thrown into prison for their sanctuary city status
the police will readily hand those in jail to ICE.
Hopefully SCOTUS will rule against birthright citizenship.
They have large families.
Many entire families will follow the deported family member.
A drop in taxes? You funny, you funny guy!
“Last month I used Zillow to counter the country tax assessment increase, not sure it worked but at least it was verifiable difference from the government value.”

I did that too and it worked for me.
Good. If this means supply is catching up with demand in more markets, it’s excellent news.
“this should allow more middle-class millennials to be able to afford a home purchase”

True but the total cost of home ownership keeps going up due to rising property taxes, utilities, insurance, upkeep, repairs, etc. Plus mortgage rates have gone up.
The past 3 years, home prices have risen 300%. I’ve posted constantly here how property taxes are breaking us. When we moved in, they were 2 weeks of income but skyrocketed to around 4 months of income. Every dime is squeezed and squeezed again just to get it paid and can’t keep up with the maintenance. Houses that sold at $300k a few years ago jumped to $600k and immediately jumped to $1.5M a couple years ago and today is $1.7M and that is for a small dinky old house with a too small garage, the laundry was shoved into a bathroom and the small galley kitchen had the cabinets knocked to so they could have a trending island that seats two. The property taxes are... drum roll... $25,000!
These prices are all thanks to the Californian. Illegals, according to gov. numbers make up 7% of Texas’ population (cough, more) so if we can send them packing, that might help.
me too! we lived in No. Virginia, and you know that area is really gonna take a hit.
Property taxes go up because everyone’s cousin needs a job.
The Democrats figured it out a long time ago.
Elect Republicans nationally and we’ll raise your state taxes.
Elect Republicans to state offices and we’ll raise county taxes.
Elect republicans to county offices and we’ll increase city taxes.
The Democrats get rich by stealing from taxes.
They will find a way to tax you.
If Texas were to get rid of them, that’d be the population size of Houston. After that, if we could get rid of the Californian invasion, we’d be doing GREAT. I used to pass maybe 4 cars on the drive into town but today it is bumper to bumper traffic.
Yes...here is the story from our little farm/tourist town in Oregon...from a contractor, who long ago came from Mexico. He told my hub they ARE concentrating on those who get picked up and sent to local prison...not on general population.
The Californian invasion with their Californian idea of housing prices caused exactly 50% or 55 of the homes in our neighborhood to sprout for sale signs 10 years ago and there’s still a high turnover rate. Sadly, the new buyers turned them into weekend rentals so there is nothing but strangers with loud parties coming and going. Oh, and we had a, uh, hmm, house with swarthy young men being brought in, curtains tightly closed and never going outside but a few days later being picked up and rinse and repeat for years with no one stopping it.
No freakin’ way will property taxes ever drop. Gov. Abbott was supposed to fix and lower them a couple years ago by billions. Never saw it in our bill. Was supposed to have lowered them about 10 years ago but never saw it in our bill. They were supposed to have reduced them just the other day, I’m not holding my breath.
Damn. I hate that for you. California continues to destroy our country.
Insurance will run about $500 a month to start.
Port St. Joe has a paper mill, very stinky.
Good. Houses need to crash hard. We’re looking to upgrade decently bigger soon, so everything needs to be as cheap as possible!
