90-foot underwater ‘pyramid’ could predate Egyptian landmarks and Stonehenge by thousands of years — and rewrite history, scientists say

Is this the real-life Atlantis. A 90-foot “pyramid” submerged just off the coast of Japan is turning heads — and could shake up everything we thought we knew about ancient civilizations.

Sitting 82 feet below sea level near the Ryukyu Islands, the Yonaguni Monument has baffled scientists and divers since it was first discovered in 1986. The enormous stone structure, complete with angular steps and flat terraces, looks uncannily like the ruins of a man-made temple — despite being over 10,000 years old. That timeline, if proven accurate, would date it thousands of years earlier than Egypt’s pyramids or England’s Stonehenge — and possibly make it the oldest known structure ever built by humans.

I remember fifty seven years ago when someone tried to get the submerged lands classified at “his” property with him as ruler. He called it “Aqualandia” He was on the Joe Pyne Show back in 1968. They even sang the Aqualandia National Anthem.

Nick. As you are already probably aware, there was that 65-70 meter sea level rise starting about 14,000 up to about 8000 years ago following collapse of various continental Ice Sheets. The rise inundated Doggerland, created the the English Channel in what was the Seine/Thames valley, and topped the saddle between the atlas mountains and increased, or, created the Mediterranean sea, and probably the Black sea. So this pyramid was probably erected Pre-deluge. or 8000 to 9000 years ago.

Last post. Should have indicated that Doggerland was one example of what was taking place.

I saw this story and chose not to post it when I read the name of the formation at the heart of the article.

smh

There certainly needs to be more underwater research of inundated coastal regions - of this site as well - but hyping it as the Post is doing isn’t helping anyone. It’s rather ‘national enquirer’-like.

I read those books in high school back in ‘71, except I had the paperbacks. When I saw this story it was the first thing I thought of.

Thanks SteveH. Years ago geologist Robert Schoch examined the formations, stated that they were natural. Here's the two kw, sorted:
