I'm a "details matter" kind of person. The truth is, the origin of the word "Hispanic" meant descendant of Spaniards. So saying "I'm not white, I'm Hispanic" is like saying "I'm not fat, I'm Stacey Abrams". LOL I don't like the left doing wordplay and changing the meanings of things. It's one way they lie and steal history. Being Hispanic literally means being a descendant of the people who brought many times more black slaves to the Americas than the English did.

And to note: It is a popular belief that the “Puerto Rican Race” came out of the mix of Spanish, Native and African peoples. While it is true that during the first three centuries of Spanish domain in PR there was significant intermarriage, at the beginning of the 19th century the population of the island was very small. It wasn’t until Spain published the Royal Decree of Graces - encouraging more Spaniards and other non-Spanish Catholic Europeans to migrate to Puerto Rico and Cuba - that the population boomed to around a million by the time of the Spanish-American war. So, most Puerto Ricans today are descendants of that late wave, not from the original settlers. And that’s why your meme is so true.
