A man in Memphis, Tennessee, was accidentally shot by his own dog earlier this month.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning on March 10, came as a nasty shock when the man was sleeping, according to WHBQ-TV in Memphis.
The man was identified as Jerald Kirkwood by WJW-TV in Cleveland.
The one-year-old pit bull known as Oreo jumped up to join the man and his girlfriend as they were asleep.
But the animal’s paw jammed in the trigger.

What does the picture of the house have to do with anything? That’s not a double-wide.

When guns are outlawed, only pit bulls will have guns...

Why was the damn dog bringing a gun to bed in the first place?

Is the dog's name Gen. Patton?
Because of the ivory handle on the gun for those FReepers too young to get the reference.
At least that better be ivory and not pearl. We know how Patton would feel about that.

How about not sleeping in the bed with a loaded firearm?

How about not sleeping in the bed with a loaded firearm? For those who haven't seen it, here's a link to one of the greatest YouTube videos ever: "Personal Protection: Shooting While in Bed" from the late Paul Harrell.

That’s the girlfriend’s story and she’s sticking to it.
Every single time one of these 'man shot by dog' stories comes up- and it's multiple times a year, usually a hunting incident though- the first thought in my mind is "what other people were present?"
Throw in the fact that the article says multiple shell casings were found, and this one's pretty suspect as well.
It's entertaining how many of the 'man shot by dog with his own shotgun' stories involve minor injuries, almost always to the head. Seems to imply the gun was aimed up off the ground, but not so upward as to be leaning on something for convenience, and was far enough away that the pattern was spreading out and the shot slowing down. I'm convinced most of those are actually 'buddy accidentally swung through man following a duck and peppered him; they then agreed to blame the dog to avoid legal trouble' stories.
Seriously, I'd love to know what percentage of 'man shot by dog' stories are actually true. My money's on less than 50%.

I’m not proud of this, but one of our puppies chewed a rubber Crimson Trace grip through the pocket of my jeans that were laying on the floor. The gun did not go off.
Those things are expensive, so I still use it, despite it looking a little raggedy. Still holds zero.
