Kitty Dukakis, the wife of former Massachusetts governor and 1988 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis, has died at the age of 88, Fox News Digital has confirmed.
Her son, John Dukakis, said that the wife and mother of three died Friday night "surrounded by family."
"She was born on December 26, 1936, and lived a full life fighting to make the world a better place and sharing her vulnerabilities to help others face theirs," he said in a statement. "She was loving, feisty and fun, and had a keen sensitivity to people from all walks of life. She and our dad, Michael Dukakis, shared an enviable partnership for over 60 years and loved each other deeply. Thank you to all who have touched our lives over the years or who were touched by our mother."

Soft on crime Dukakis let convicted murderer Willie Horton out of prison for a weekend leave whereupon he raped and tortured a couple. The Willie Horton ads did him in.
Yup, that debate moment really sunk him.
Memory Eternal!
Ok.

When my mom died I didn’t call fox to announce it.
Kitty was no better than my mom, maybe a little worse.
Amen.
“Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1936, Kitty Dukakis (née Dixon) was the daughter of conductor Harry Ellis Dixon. She married Michael Dukakis in 1963, and together they formed a devoted and distinctive couple. Kitty, who was Jewish and deeply emotional, contrasted with her husband, a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, who was known for his calm and reserved nature”
When I was a teenager in the early 90’s working in a pharmacy, there was a new item, green (I think mint) rubbing alcohol. I said “Oh, Kitty Dukakis will LOVE this!” Some thought it was funny, some didn’t.
“It’s always amazing when you see hardcore drunks and substance abusers live that long. Her body should be willed to science to understand the genetics of the “cast iron liver”.
Seriously. Life ain’t fair. God bless her, Kitty spent decades chain-smoking and drinking like a fish (she once even guzzled rubbing alcohol when they tried to get her off the sauce)... and she makes it to 88 while some young person who tries to lead a healthy lifestyle dies of cancer at 40.
Back in the 80s, I used to make a “Kitty Dukakis” cocktail.
2 shots of vodka and 1 oz Dawn dish detergent.
Stirred, no ice.
In '89 I was at the Red Sox spring training game when they were in Winter Haven FL, up about 15 rows behind home plate, and Dukakis was gladhanding people in the VIP seats further down, closer to the field. He seemed happy, but then politicians never look unhappy unless they're ranting about Trump or Elon or MAGA or something.
“””Not only him but Jimmy Carter”””
Jimmy stayed around until there was a President who was worse than he was. Once he saw that he was no longer the worst he let go.
I vaguely remember her. She was an advanced alcoholic and when he was running for potus, he locked her in her bathroom. She drank a bottle of Listerine and almost died. They took her to the ER, it hit the news, and he dropped out of the race.
Sorry, it was the 90s.
I’m old.
He has done nothing different than a current dem would do.
“He would be totally rejected by the modern day Lunatic Democrat party.”
Why? He was just like them. He released Willie Horton for a weekend pass to rape a woman and damn near beat her husband to death. He didn’t care. He wanted to put lunatic Lawrence Tribe on the Supreme Court. He lost forty states to Old Man Bush during saner times. He was a pointy head, left wing kook.
I’m sorry to hear this but I am not sure how much difference it makes to the whole world. My parents both have passed and I have had friends that are no longer here so I have enough to care about within my own circle of friends. George Foreman had a much larger effect on me.
RIP
Her struggles paralleled my sisters in many ways.
A complete decades long nightmare for the rest of my family.
I remember Jon Lovitz on SNL playing Dukakis, and saying during the debate “How am I losing to this guy?”
