Poll: Do You Support the VA Cutting 80,000 Jobs? Last Updated: March 20, 2025 1 Comment
Veterans and military families, please take a moment of your time to answer our urgent poll about what is happening at the VA. It only takes a few seconds, and we believe it is critical that you voice your opinion on this matter. Thank you!
Absolutely.
I worked there for ten years.
Not enough info.
Veterans should not be limited to the DMV of health insurance. Fire the bureaucrats, and let veterans go to the best doctors, without a network requirement.
I was walking through the Nashville VA hospital and saw a door sign: "Transition Services".
First reaction was "Oh hell no you freaks" until realizing that was about service people readjusting to civilian life.
But the fact that my mind grasped the worst possibility first says a lot about what society has devolved to.
I’m a vet and very happy with the level of care I receive at VA hospitals. However there are an awful lot of employees running around each facility. My local clinic doesn’t get much traffic but they have 3 people to check in people. And usually only one is busy.
I discovered in my dealings with the VA that they have a large number of seat-warmers who don’t want to do anything and will actively work hard to not handle documents in a timely fashion. So 80,000 sounds like a good start; now improve the hiring and management practices so you have employees that actually do their jobs and get canned if they don’t.
100% this right here. The entire VA "system" can be easily folded into Medicare, right down to the card.
Pay the piper
If they’re not necessary, yes!
See, that's the problem. Everyone is on board with government cuts, except for their entitlement program or pet project.
Every agency has fat that has to be trimmed. The VA is no different.
remember those 80,000 may not be helpful yet they are using up approximately $8 billion dollars a year that could go to vets in other ways.
You can vote multiple times.
I live in a state where all VA care is provided by civilians.
VA just acts as a Triage.
I go to the same doctors, and hospitals as my wife does.
Her health insurance is about $180 per month.
My VA is “free”, although I pay for medicare as a backup.
She gets nickle and dimed to death.
I don’t. Same hospital, same ICU,
and same doctors and nurses.
I’m mostly happy with my VA coverage.
I earned it.
Needs a good freepin
These 80,000 staff members have obviously NOT made the VA service any better for the vets, GET RID OF THEM and start over!!
Two friends were treated there. They both agreed with you.
Agreed
My wife was a Dr in charge of a clinic at the VA for many years. She worked there over 30 years before retirement.
Even though she was in charge, she had no authority over the many people who worked in her department. It’s all horizontal lines of authority.
All psychiatrists answer only to the chief of psychiatry. All nurses answer on ly to nursing, all psychologists only to their chief, same for every employee.
When she retired, they replaced her with four people and managed to create more baggage. The people spend more effort figuring out how to avoid work than actually doing work. That is also true of many of the Dr’s.
Her biggest frustration was that her appointments were scheduled three months in advance. If she got sick, there was no one else to see them so it was another three months for the rescheduled appointment. That was in a very large VA Hospital.
One big problem is that everyone tries to justify their job with meetings. With all the meetings it decreases patient time.
I audited hospital financials for many years as a CPA. The VA is one of the most inefficient run hospitals I have ever observed. They need a DOGE audit.
Yes.. of the 480,000 that were paid probably 100,000 are actually doing any work.
It’s a totally incompetent institution with asinine rules and regulations. Hopefully Doug Collins can fix it.
