New York Times goes bipolar on Trump’s border control success
American Thinker ^ | 17 Mar, 2025 | Thomas Lifson

I confess to a tiny drop of pity for Trump-haters within the tidal wave of amusement I experience watching them deal with the successes President Trump already has experienced. The worst of it for TDS sufferers right now must be the border, where within mere weeks, and to the enthusiastic approval of the American people, President Trump has stanched the flow of millions of unvetted foreigners down to an almost undetectable trickle.

Consider the dilemma this creates for the Ministry of Progressive Propaganda, also known as the New York Times. What should be the Party Line (Progs always need a Party Line to know how to react to new developments) when the steps Trump has taken already have been anathemized by them, yet the results are popular and resonating with the public in a way that surely induces shudders and could lead to doubts about the wisdom of electing Democrats?

The stress has led to the TDS-infected Times going bipolar, in the words of a friend of mine. Here’s the headline:

How Trump’s Hard-Line Tactics Are Driving Down Migration

Hard-line is bad and migration is good, according to most Times readers, so the tone is one of concern verging into alarm. The subhead is where they go bipolar:

Building on Biden-era policies, President Trump is strong-arming regional leaders, deploying military force and shredding decades of precedents when it comes to the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Building on Biden-era policies” right from the start of the article? Who actually believes that? Only people paying no attention. Trump’s hard-line tactics and strong-arming leaders are shredding decades of precedent. And yet, he’s building on Biden era policies? No explanation about how those awful tactics of 2021–2024 work under Trump but not Biden. If Trump were actually building upon Biden’s policies, thousands of people would still be crossing

Good to see that Mr Lifson still feels like writing occasionally.

NYT has been bipolar for a long time. The symptoms are just more evident with TDS.

more like NYT has gone full-schizo, trying to laud biden for his massive fake-failed policies that actually encouraged millions of ignorant peasants to invade the U.S., while attacking President Trump for completely halting the invasion in its tracks by SUPPOSEDLY using JUST those exact same biden policies ... none of any of this is even remotely true, nor does it make any sense of course, but the NYT has gone completely insane with TDS, so one can expect more of this 1/4 baked nonsensical propaganda for the next four years (at least) ...

Nothing on the Left makes the slightest bit of sense. They just “say stuff”.

My favorite recently is the guy in NYC who thinks Elon Musk is a Nazi. So, in order to protest against Nazis, the Democrat carved a swastika into some Jewish guy’s Tesla. Does it make sense? No. No it does not.

From the article: Lots more negative words like “drastically”, “unpalatable”, and “ineffective” to soften the good news of “paradigm change.” “Ultimately ineffective” translates to: “We (dear readers and Times staffers) are correct, but you just need to be patient.”

By patient that means until the next Democrat frauds their way into the office.

Agree many never noticed when the NYT supported Hitler.

They have a long list of such actions it’s why the liberals and democrats love it.

I know at first in the early 30’s, everybody thought Hitler was the cat’s meow. It was only in the latter 30’s that Hitlers true colors emerged.

Did the NYT’s support him in the latter 30’s or beyond. If so, I’d like to see a copy of a dated article.

I know at first in the early 30’s, everybody thought Hitler was the cat’s meow.

Not exactly. Americans mired in the Great Depression couldn't help but note that Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union both managed to escape it. Germany did it with a massive military buildup, and the Soviet Union did it with a massive program of industrialization. Both were financed by Wall Street, the City of London, the Paris Bourse and the gnomes of Zurich. Some investment banks supported Hitler as a bulwark against the Soviets, and some supported Stalin to get the two dictators to fight and wear each other down until the Americans could ride in on a white horse and set Europe to rights as Wilson attempted to do after World War I.

Some Americans took Hitler's side, to include some prominent industrialists. The German-American Bund at its zenith held that infamous rally in Madison Square Garden with floor-to-ceiling figures of Washington next to Hitler.

Some Americans took Stalin's side, with the American Communist Party making inroads into the labor movement, the academy, Hollywood and the early civil rights movement.

The New York Times was squarely on the side of Stalin.

Once we went to war with Germany, the FBI was all over German sympathizers who were lucky they weren't sent to internment camps. The Soviets were our buddies.

Then the Soviets decided to hang on to their eastern and central European conquests and had the bad manners to steal our nuclear secrets. People who had supported Stalin ended up with the FBI all over them, being forced to name others at congressional inquiries.

With the hard turn to the Left in American politics due to the Depression and the New Deal, there were more Americans in sympathy with Stalin than Hitler.

What the Nazis did was the equivalent of you "rescuing" a homeless guy from the streets by kidnapping him, rifling through his pockets for valuables, throwing him into chains, and putting him to work in your basement. (One could be more graphic, but this is a family site.)

What the Soviets did was the equivalent of you corralling an entire hobo encampment and letting half of them starve while the other half are worked to death.

I believe that we conservatives should be very careful about our diction when describing how the Nazis and the Soviets "dealt with" the Great Depression.

Phrases like "managed to escape" give entirely the wrong impression.
