Great song. Thanks for posting. IIRC it was our HS class song or prom theme in 1968

I remember that song, and I liked it as a child. I didn't know that it was "Eurovision," and therefore I was supposed to
not like it.
1968 was also the year Classical Gas went to #1 in the United States. It was written by Mason Williams, who was (at that time) head writer for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Very talented guy.
Also that year, 1968, MacArthur Park went to #1. Perhaps Jimmy Webb's magnum opus.
A remarkable year for music, and to be young. That year would end with the Book of Genesis coming to us from lunar orbit.

A lot of males bought the album in 1968 because of the album cover.

Several covers were recorded of this song.
At least one of them sounds like they used a Harpsichord for the main melody. Very nice. Genteel, even.

Even a hardcore teen rocker like me loved this song.

I get misty eyed every time I hear that tune. Reminds when my first ever dog died.

Sweet, brings back memories (good ones).
Never seen how it was put together, though - thanks for that!

I listen to this song several times a year, for the last decade or so.
My sister used to have this on a 45, and I used to play her records when I was a child. It reminds me of a bygone era.
