Great song. Thanks for posting. IIRC it was our HS class song or prom theme in 1968

I remember that song, and I liked it as a child. I didn't know that it was "Eurovision," and therefore I was supposed to
not like it.
1968 was also the year Classical Gas went to #1 in the United States. It was written by Mason Williams, who was (at that time) head writer for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Very talented guy.
Also that year, 1968, MacArthur Park went to #1. Perhaps Jimmy Webb's magnum opus.
A remarkable year for music, and to be young. That year would end with the Book of Genesis coming to us from lunar orbit.

A lot of males bought the album in 1968 because of the album cover.

A favorite of mine as well.
I usually prefer instrumentals.

Several covers were recorded of this song.
At least one of them sounds like they used a Harpsichord for the main melody. Very nice. Genteel, even.

Even a hardcore teen rocker like me loved this song.

I get misty eyed every time I hear that tune. Reminds when my first ever dog died.

The harpsichord enjoyed a revival at that time. It was used in a number of songs, both Top 40 and for TV and movie themes.
Other unusual instruments had a heyday back then, perhaps following the lead of The Beatles (piccolo trumpet in Penny Lane, celli in Elanor Rigby, sitar in Norwegian Wood, and many others).
I'm thinking of the bassoon used in The 59th Street Bridge Song, and the bass trombone paired with piccolo in the bridge of I'd Like To Get To Know You.
Of course the Moog synthesizer was slowly but steadily being adopted by more and more bands at that time.

Sweet, brings back memories (good ones).
Never seen how it was put together, though - thanks for that!

Also that year, 1968, MacArthur Park went to #1. I don't know why, the lyrics never made a bit of sense to me......
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no

They didn't make any sense to me, at the time.
But now, 56 years later, I understand them much better than I ever wanted.
