Leadership conventions are attended by members of the political party holding the convention. A citizen can join any Party by paying their membership fee, usually $30-$40. Then you’re invited to attend the convention and can cast a vote for your Party’s leader. That’s what Carney won and, because Trudeau resigned, he became the Acting Prime Minister. He may call an election soon before the public can figure out what he’s like, or he may wait for a few months and govern like a conservative in the interim, hoping to fool enough people into voting for him to be the PM for the next 4 years.

About five years ago, a former co-worker of mine (and an all-around good guy) passed away just as he was ready to retire. Of all the people who would have enjoyed himself after pulling the pin, he would have been in the front row. His being cut off prematurely from a well-earned retirement after so many years of service laid heavy on a couple of us who had worked with him.
His situation was one reason - fallout from covid mandates were another - that I decided a couple years later that I would bow out after my "66 plus pocket change," which date incidentally also celebrated 40 years in harness (which began after 4 years spent in the credentialing gulag). There are days I wish I had waited a bit longer, but most of the time I am just fine with my decision.

I know everyone is different, age, earnings history, savings, pensions etc. But if you just use raw numbers from this year, max SS payout for 62 = $2,831, 70 is $5,108, it takes about 9 years to catch up.
Back several years ago when I first considered retirement, it actually calculated to be 14 years to catch up.

Good way to look at it.
Waiting from 66 +10 mo until 70 nets about 8% per year increase in SS payments, but the catch-up time frame is something that they don’t tell you about.
Plus, I could croak at any time - I feel like I should get what I can out of the system before that happens, or before some idiot in the government decides to take some away from people that saved for their retirement and give it to deadbeats (which they already do to some extent) in exchange for their votes.

There are a lot of things they don't tell you about.
The main thing is, when you retire, all you do is spend money.
Secondly those of us with a 401K, were sold on "put it in before taxes, that way when you take it out, you'll be at a lower tax rate".
What they don't tell you is you'll need to withdraw 30% more than you need so you can pay the taxes and those withdrawals put you over "the limit" so you now have to pay taxes on your SS AND your medicare is MUCH higher.
Ahhhh... If I only knew then, what I know now...
And to think people claim it's a conspiracy theory that the govt wants us stuck in the middle class..

Just the name of the container vessels in this event is suspicious. The cargo ship named “So Long” was left on auto pilot for hours and intercepted an anchored US military charted tanker loaded with aviation fuel that was to be heading to the Mideast. No manned overwatch or radar warning on the bridge of the container ship indicates something is seriously amiss.
Currently, there are 2 AWACS aloft over the South (red circles) and one E4-B aloft over D.C. (yellow arrow & circle).
The bird over Arkansas (green) is an executive-stable bird without a call sign.
There is no E-6 aloft as is usual when POTUS is flying over CONUS.
The AWACS, in their current positions indicate B-52 and/or B-1 flights later today.
The E4-B not only hoovers up signals but provides signals cover for VIP aircraft.
It can perform such tasks as altering transponder signals to make the plane 'look' like something else.
Or, causing the transponder to appear to be somewhere else.
Anyone know which Executive Branch big-wig flew to Dallas today?
