Or apparently gas leak. Did not consider it but the two other animals being alive do give some weight to the theory.

“Probably suicide.”
Was the dog that depressed?
To: Vendome

Dr. Rumack: “What was it we had for dinner tonight?”
Stewardess Elaine: “Well, we had a choice, steak or fish.”
Dr. Rumack: “Yes, yes, I remember, I had lasagna.”

Actually it can be as simple as a heater malfunction.

The chemical, called a mercaptan, is added to fuel gas such as methane or LPG to make it strong odered. Carbon monoxide (CO) is oderless even from burning fuels that have been treated.

Some people have been known to test lethal substances on their animals to make sure it is actually lethal before taking it themselves.
However the people who are arguing for a CO leak also have a point.
Guess we shall see.
Of course could be something completely off the wall that no one has considered.
Dog dies naturally, one of them trips over the dog body hit their head and dies from brain bleed, the other has a heart attack.
Not at all probable but possible.

To natural gas, yes, but carbon monoxide is the bi-product of a faulty heater and aside from a detector, there's no way to know its' presence.

You could be right, but after reading you comment I was struck by the following. After looking into the numbers, I learned that;
In America an average of 5,000 people dies every year from carbon monoxide every year. Yet 48 states in America have laws placed by politicians the dwellings must have at least one and in some states 2 or three carbon monoxide detectors.
Now consider the amount of detectors sold every year in America by law. Maybe we need Musk to start looking into the scam of politicians getting rich from businesses getting unneeded laws passed in America so they can sell products no one wants.

Vitas Gerulaitis Champion tennis player
On September 17, 1994, while visiting a friend’s home in Southampton, New York, an improperly installed propane heater for the swimming pool caused carbon monoxide gas to seep into the guesthouse where Gerulaitis was sleeping, causing his death by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Can't say.
The dog that was dead was found next to them but they do not say where the other ones were, only that they were "found later". That could mean any thing from different area to outside to they were hiding in the same room and just not found at that time.

You’ve been here a long time. Do you remember Howlin? Her son died in an apartment of carbon monoxide poisoning. Those doctors are pretty cheap but if you forget to replace the batteries or knock one out of a plug it’s useless.

A CO leak?
Santa Fe is fairly close to Colorado. Is Colorado that dangerous?
