Actor Gene Hackman arrives with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, for the 60th Annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Jan. 19, 2003, where he would receive the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Cecil B deMille Award for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. Legendary actor, two-time Oscar winner and author Gene Hackman and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead Wednesday afternoon in their home in the Santa Fe Summit community northeast of the city.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed just after midnight Thursday the couple had died, along with their dog.

Mendoza said in an interview Wednesday evening there was no immediate indication of foul play. He did not provide a cause of death or say when the couple might have died.

Hackman, 95, had lived in Santa Fe since the 1980s and married Arakawa, 63, in 1991.

Oh. The dog too. They will figure it out. Still sad. He was so great an actor. He also wrote novels after he retired from acting. And he was hit by a car while bike riding in FL at age 81.

“Gene went many years without being seen-—spotted here”

I believe the last time he appeared on camera was in 2008. Guy Fieri took his Drive ins, Diners and Dives show to New Mexico and Gene joined him at one of the Restaurants he frequented.

“suicide pact?”

Don’t think the dog would have agreed with that!

A great entertainer! R.I.P., Mr. & Mrs. Hackman (and their dog).

I have that beat...

Bonnie and Clyde
The French Connection
The Conversation
Young Frankenstein... Two more.
A Bridge Too Far
Unforgiven

The French Conversation and Conversation were all Hackman... Most of his movie parts were supporting roles, but Hackman was up there with the best of them.

“suicide pact?”

I was thinking the same thing. What the autopsy comes up with and the police report.
and what first responders might have seen are all indicators.

I think it was the dog.

But what kind of weapon wouldn’t leave a mark and what could he use with just paws?

My two favorite Gene Hackman movies were "Young Frankenstein" and "Lucky Lady" ... the latter being a prohibition movie with Burt Reynolds and Liza Minelli (and John Hillerman).

I thought his scene in Young Frankenstein may have been the best one of the entire movie, which was hysterical.

If you need a good laugh today check out the clip.

RIP

How terribly sad. Wasn’t he in “The Birdcage” or am I thinking of somebody else?
