A woman from New Jersey was killed by a hippo while on an African safari with her husband who now alleges the tour operator failed to keeping her safe.
Lisa Manders, 70, was gruesomely attacked by the hippo last year in Zambia on the trip while her husband, Craig, horrified husband watched on.
The mother-of-three suffered 'catastrophic injuries' and died moments after the attack, according to the lawsuit.
'Had we understood the dangers posed by the hippopotamus, we never would have agreed to be in such close contact while on foot,' Craig said in a statement from his attorneys, Paul Slager and Nicole Coates, reported NBC News.

I feel I’ve made the right choice all these years not going on a safari tour
Sounds a bit like a Hemingway story.
[[such close contact while on foot,’]]
There’s the problem right there... on foot? Seriously? To see one of the most dangerous animals on earth? I shoud think that the people who decided to go on the safari hold some blame for not doing their homework- they were also likely told that it could be dangerous, maybe even signed papers to that effect? They certainly should have been required to anyways!
I get out a lot.
While on Mt. Rainier in WA, we were having a nice lunch on a beautiful sunny day at Spray Park beside a reflecting pond above the tree line.
A good sized black bear came up over the ridge across the 100 foot diameter pond and waded right towards us and our great smelling pepperoni. We scooped up our lunch and beat feet.
May have lost the stick of pepperoni in the excitement.
My wife hates it when I carry in the wild. But I insist and she relents in Griz country.
My first encounter with Griz was the most dangerous. Was hiking Glacier in late Spring 1980 when my friend and I came around a sharp corner and surprised mama Griz and cub at 50 feet. Luckily. we all decided to run in opposite directions.
[[ Almost as dangerous as a walk through the hood in South Central LA.]]
Or a walk through a crowd of protestors praying outside an abortion clinic... if you listen to the left who have made it their mission to imprison such dangerous felons like them. /s
Hippos kill more humans than lions do. Everyone who lives in the region, surely knows that.
“ That’s as close as I can get to real world conditions for Griz.”
It’s Hard to replicate the surprise, shock, and adrenaline you will get in a real encounter.
I note that the license plate says 'clever gal'...
There are rhinos in Nepal?
Very true
yah,.....that too.
“Hippos are the number one most dangerous animal in Africa. If you are 70 years old and don’t know that, then you’re an idiot.“
Not just the fact they are 70 and didn’t know that - these people literally planned a Safari in Africa and still didn’t know that.
Extremely dangerous.
I’d bet they’re further down the list than #2. Africa’s got scorpions, mosquitos, snakes, worms, crocodiles, elephants...
Dang, I’m never going there.
What, you can’t just up up on their back for a photo?
Did he whip out his cell phone and film it?
Yes. Indian 1 horned rino
“ Anyone dumb enough to not think a hippo isn’t an inherently dangerous animal is no great loss to society anyway.”
Wow. I am really shocked by your hard words. What if I told you that poor woman and her husband were frequent posters here? You have no idea what that woman was, or was not. All we know for sure is that God loves her and she died tragically. To be clear, I have no idea whether or not she and her husband are posters here, but they could be, and either way God tells us to treat all people as our brothers and sisters.
Seems that people are generally unaware of how dangerous and unpredictable they are.
