A woman from New Jersey was killed by a hippo while on an African safari with her husband who now alleges the tour operator failed to keeping her safe.

Lisa Manders, 70, was gruesomely attacked by the hippo last year in Zambia on the trip while her husband, Craig, horrified husband watched on.

The mother-of-three suffered 'catastrophic injuries' and died moments after the attack, according to the lawsuit.

'Had we understood the dangers posed by the hippopotamus, we never would have agreed to be in such close contact while on foot,' Craig said in a statement from his attorneys, Paul Slager and Nicole Coates, reported NBC News.

They Extremely safe when you don’t find the LEAST expensive one.

I know a number of people who have gone on them and they Rarely got out of the vehicle they were in and only in the most safe circumstances were they allowed out.

There was also security.

Anyone dumb enough to not think a hippo isn’t an inherently dangerous animal is no great loss to society anyway

Go to Yellowstone.

First thing you’re told is not to approach the wildlife.

Even if the tour operator is a moron, it didn’t mean the couple had to leave their common sense in the car.

--- "Had we understood the dangers posed...."

Sad tale, but the words above apply to so many sad tales.

One of the "first-world" problems of a supposedly affluent West is that there are indeed DANGERS in so much. It's a good thing to "understand" them, before....

I was charged by rhinos in Nepal. They are notoriously blind, and missed.

This couple actually went out on a “Bush walk” with no guide. Article says the guide or guides had left or something. A Bush walk with no guide or protection? Almost as dangerous as a walk through the hood in South Central LA.

Real hippos are almost as dangerous as those hippos currently touring the streets with their “War In the Streets” concerts singing, screaming, groaning, flatulating and vomiting evil stuff about Americans who think they are crazy.

I will never set foot in any African country, much less go on a safari and for someone to do that and not know hippopotamusses (I know I misspelled that, but I like the sound) are the most dangerous four legged animal there is insane.

I don’t know why people want to go anywhere near Africa. It has always been a mess.

"Go to Yellowstone. First thing you’re told is not to approach the wildlife."

And yet, this is completely normal there:

I have ACCIDENTALLY encountered Griz and wolves there. Never knew they were around until it was too late.

Holy moley. You hear about people walking up to buffalos to get a picture but this is the worst. There is no animal on this planet that is more deadly and mean than a hippopotamus.

I guarantee the guy had his wife get close to a hippo for a picture. And he blames his own stupidly on the tour guy.

BTW I don’t speak hippo but I do speak rhinoceros, why of courserous I can.

Uhhh how the hell did you not know how dangerous Hippos are? They kill plenty of people every year. They’re aggressive, fast and huge. They kill tons of crocodiles in Africa every year too. Keep your distance if you have any brains at all.

Hippos are the number one most dangerous animal in Africa. If you are 70 years old and don’t know that, then you’re an idiot.
