people choose to step into wild life areas for fun without having bothered to prepare THEMSELVES, are the root cause of incidents like these.
all fun and games until...
I feel sorry the lady died but it’s crazy to put yourself in harms way then be upset when something happens.
like those taking selfies and fall off cliffs or bungie jump, sky dive, or hike/drive into areas off beaten path or etc etc. Go have your fun, but don’t complain when a known possibility happens, just because you didnt think it would.
“Had we understood the dangers posed....”
How do you become a septuagenarian and not have learned anything about the world?
By continuing to vote for Democrats. :)
He was smart enough to acquire the money for a 10 day safari in Zambia.
How does he not know about the dangers of hippos? Or her either?
But it does remind me of the punch line to an old, old joke: “How does you order up a hurricane?”
(Likely butchered the joke)
I don’t think Hippos mess with Rhinos much though. At least a Rhino with a good horn. Without a horn, the Rhino really doesn’t have much though. With the horn...look out. Even Lions run.
I hike the back country of YNP and GNP about every other year.
Half the time, I run into Griz in one way or another. About 8 times by last count.
So I practice and carry a .357 Ruger Blackhawk flattop with Buffalo Bore hardcast. My practice is at an otherwise empty range where my buddy is range master.
I load up my daypack, chest holster my Ruger, run around the parking lot until winded, run up to the line, spin around 3 times until dizzy, draw, and drop 4 out 6 7” steel plates at 25 yards.
That’s as close as I can get to real world conditions for Griz.
That is a known fact. SMH that these folks claimed they were unaware of the dangers.
Just stay in the vehicle and you’ll be fine. The majority of people killed have a tendency to think thevwild animals are petable.
“Bush walk” with no guide”
Wow, then they were incredibly stupid. Unfortunately a lot of people are like that in wild areas.
A friend of mine went out to the front porch of a cabin because a bear was sniffing around. She told me she wanted to pet it. The bear left, she didn’t die but if she did ,I wouldn’t blame the bear, the cabin owner or anyone else but her.
[Chinese morons]
You seem to have a real way with animals.
I had to pay the tour guide extra to get that done.

Oooooo Kaaaaaay……..🙄
More money than brains.
Got any more of them African hippo sightseeing trips? Asking for a friend.
A few years back while driving through Eastern Washington wheat country, the traffic came to a stop. There was a bull moose grazing his way towards the wooded stream. It was several hundred yards away. Everyone had got out of their cars to take pictures and so did I. But I was standing next to some moron who looked over to me and said lets go get closer.
I told him hell no, those things will charge you and can kill you.
If your lucky, they will only bite your sister!
In the gloaming twilight just West of Glacier way up past Polebridge hard by the Candian border, we saw outside our 1890 cabin a huge brown thing destroying the footbridge over a small creek.
Spooky. Got my Ruger handy and watched for about 30 minutes, in case that was Griz and he turned his attention to the old cabin.
Eventually, the activity stopped and he went away through the dark woods.
In the morning, we discovered that it had been the reclusive neighbor we had been warned about, taking out the bridge to his property so that visitors like us to the AirBNB cabin wouldn’t go wandering onto his property.
“Always know your target and what is beyond it!”
“ Uhhh how the hell did you not know how dangerous Hippos are? ”
Hippos are presented as cute and cuddly happy creatures in American children’s stories, cartoons, etc. I don’t know, but this couple could be completely ignorant while feeling fully informed, thanks to despicable American media and education.
You have to admit being killed by a hippo at seventy gives one a pretty much unforgettable Obit!!
They must have missed the part about the WILD animals on the safari.
