Elon Musk Issues Major Social Security Warning (fraud)
Newsweek ^ | 2/11/25 | Aliss Higham

Posted on 02/12/2025 3:53:50 AM PST by Libloather

Billionaire Elon Musk has said there is widespread fraud taking place in the payment of "federal entitlements" like Social Security.

**SNIP**

What to Know

Musk wrote on X on February 11: "At this point, I am 100% certain that the magnitude of the fraud in federal entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Disability, etc) exceeds the combined sum of every private scam you've ever heard by FAR. It's not even close."

It follows another post from February 8 in which Musk said he was told there are currently over $100 billion per year of entitlements payments to individuals with no Social Security Number or "even a temporary ID number."

According to the official Social Security Administration website: "You need an SSN [Social Security number] to work, collect Social Security benefits, and receive certain government services."

"If accurate, this is extremely suspicious," Musk said, as he explained several steps agreed between DOGE and the Treasury Department for making future payments, including the use of "a rationale for the payment in the comment field" and categorization codes.

He continued: "When I asked if anyone at Treasury had a rough guess for what percentage of that number is unequivocal and obvious fraud, the consensus in the room was about half, so $50B/year or $1B/week!! This is utterly insane and must be addressed immediately."

Musk also said in a separate post that "the social security database is not de-duplicated, meaning you can have the same SSN [Social Security number] many times over, which further enables MASSIVE FRAUD!!"

Newsweek has contacted the SSA for comment via email outside of regular working hours.

I THOUGHT HE WAS REFERRING TO PAYMENTS OUT OF THE TREASURY-—TO SOC SEC FRAUDS & OTHERS.

NOT PAYROLL INPUT.

I used to do payroll for an Ag operation.

Lots of Mexicans. 750 checks a week.

Got “NON-MATCH” inquiries from IRS all the time.

They were so slow, that workers got at least 9 months or more before the NON-Match questions popped up.

THEN—I would get new W-4-—Hernandez/Garcia would suddenly become Garcia-Hernandez.. Bought more time.

I was constantly chasing such in a job I got that had older payroll supervisor who NEVER questioned anything.

He was talking about payouts. But with every fake SSN number there has to be some kind of income that gets recorded, and that means there’s a contribution of the 6.2% by the fake employee.

my grand daughter applied to Publix for a job. She was told that the SSN she gave was being used by another Publix employee in a different store. It was an illegal who’d made it all the way through of her identity legitimization process. They were even taking out fed, state taxes as well as Medicare and SS.

If the SS numbers are 9 digits long, there are 1 billion combinations. Why do you say only 358 million total available?

Also, I read that as a result of 0bama’s CT number being found out, the SSA doesn’t group the numbers geographically any more.

I applied on Dec 1, 2024 for social security and the site says it can take up to 30 days for approval.

I am at step 2 of 3 and it is Feb 13,2025
Here is a link to many others with the same issue. Many waiting 100 days and some more for approval.

Because the numbers are not random or even sequential.

As has been posted numerous times, the first five relate to the location and month/year of issuance.

And numerous number combinations are not used (e.g., “000”).

Social Security Administration has assigned about 531 million Social Security numbers as of March 2023. There are still about 358 million numbers left to assign, and those are expected to last for approximately the next 70 years. The total available is 889 million.

In 2011, the SSA stopped allocating the so-called “area number” (the first three digits) based on address, and now allocates most “area numbers” that had gone unassigned. This would include all of those that start with 7 or 8.

The 900 - 999 series is still not used for SSNs; that series is used for “Taxpayer Identification Numbers”. They are given to individuals who aren’t eligible for Social Security numbers, including undocumented immigrants.

Before 2011, the middle two numbers were “group” numbers used for sorting, before the advent of computers. With computers, “grouping” is unnecessary. However, the “00” “group number” has never been issued, and regardless of the advent of computers, the SSA will continue the practice of excluding the zero-zero combination.

The first three numbers “000” were never used and here again, regardless of the advent of computers, the combination of zero-zero-zero at the beginning will still not be used. Likewise the last four numbers “0000” were never used and will still not be used past 2011.
