The U.S. military conducted airstrikes against the senior ISIS attack planner and other terrorists in Somalia on Saturday.
President Trump said on his Truth Social network that the strikes, the first military action since he took office Jan. 20, were carried out Saturday morning.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said in a statement the U.S. worked with Somalian authorities to carry out the offensive.
“This morning, I ordered precision military air strikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia,” Trump wrote in his post.
The airstrikes took out ISIS operatives in the Golis mountains in the Bari region, Hegseth said, including a senior official, responsible for planning ISIS attacks.
The name of the alleged ISIS official was not included.
“These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies,” Trump added in his Truth Social post. “The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians.”
Hegseth said “multiple operatives were killed” in the airstrikes, further degrading “ISIS’s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians.”

AOC is hungry for the limelight. I expect to see her to fly to Somalia with her diversified group to meet up with and have photos taken with ISIS in Somalia. Or maybe Hamas or Iran or God forbid she gets thrown into a North Korean prison camp for making remarks that appeared to insult President Donald Trump.
Yeh, the pressure would be Trump to negotiate her freedom.

She was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, on October 4, 1982 and spent her early years in Baidoa, Somalia. Her mother, Fadhuma Abukar Haji Hussein, a Benadiri, died when Ilhan was two. Ilhan was raised by her father and grandfather as a “moderate Sunni Muslim.” One of seven children.
Her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, an ethnic Somali from the Majeerteen clan of Northeastern Somalia, was a colonel in the Somali army under Siad Barre. She said she was bullied in school in the US for her hijab and “appearance.”

If you have no idea where a tunnel goes, I would argue that a few 2klb-4klb bunker busters would have limited effect at destroying what were originally hand dug mining tunnels.
Once the bunker buster burrows in, they can veer off course due to variances in ground composition.
I think that class weapon is what is needed against warrens of mountain tunnels.
