As "Border Czar" Tom Homan told Fox News, these round-ups have already started. Criminals are, as I write this, being captured by ICE teams working off of a target list.
Homan said his strategy is "shock and awe," which entails moving swiftly and without fail, causing fear to radiate through the illegal immigrant community and inspiring self-deportations so as not to have an encounter with ICE.
As my friend and colleague Ward Clark reported on Wednesday, ICE has already detained hundreds of illegal immigrants, making Trump's promise to deport criminal elements a fast reality, and demonstrating Homan's "shock and awe"
The media has, naturally, attempted to paint this strategy as cruel and heartless. Homan even predicted the media would try to "find the first crying woman or child they could" in order to generate sympathy from the American people and have them throw a wrench in the works. True enough, this is exactly what happened as the Washington Post spread footage of a woman sobbing after the CBP One app was deleted. As I wrote then, the moment looks very staged, and the timing of it doesn't help sell it as a legitimate moment of suffering.
