For many, it is a common occurrence to ignore phone calls, but for others, talking on the phone can become highly anxiety-inducing. Those who suffer from the effects of telephobia might have no issues with communication in person but might have difficulty with communication over the phone. For some, telephobia can negatively affect one’s personal or professional life. What is Telephobia?
Telephobia is reluctance or fear of making or taking phone calls. A fun fact that is a not-so-fun fact is that it can affect up to 76% of millennials and 40% of baby boomers. At least you know you are not alone now. This fear of phone calls can usually be associated with the fear of being criticized, judged, or rejected and can fall under the umbrella of social anxiety, affecting 15 million adults in the United States.

I have fear of widths.

"Hello? Debbie? Yeah, Debbie's here, who's this?"
"I love wrong numbers!"
I didn’t know it was a thing but I hate using cell phones. The old phones not so much. Maybe I hate calling because I hate being called on a cell.
Prescient.
exactly...
I like saying “It’s me” and seeing if they can figure it out.
I saw that episode when it originally aired
I want a time machine!
Why WKRP isn’t available for streaming:
The show’s creators licensed the tracks included in the show for the length of its original run, but nobody predicted that there might eventually be another life for the series in syndication or as pre-recorded media, so those licenses expired, making it impossible to release the DVDs with that music included.
I don’t have telephobia: I have telehatred. I HATE telephones. Have hated them since I was a child.
They never ring when it is convenient for me to answer, and almost always when it is most inconvenient.
I turn on my phone maybe six times a year; If you absolutely have to speak to me, email me for an appointment to phone. I’ve been known to drive 60 miles just to avoid making a phone call and talk to people in person.
Thank God for inspiring Algore to invent the internet. If it weren’t for email and FR, no one would ever hear from me.
Of course many people would consider that a blessing.
“If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me.”
Where there’s Chinese food, there’s leftovers.
I worked in a job that required me to occasionally cold call businesses for information. I always felt like it was a terrible inconvenience even though they expected it, I suppose.
I would have to psych myself up for it. In addition I would be sure to have exhaustive notes and specific wording for questions so I wouldn’t feel like a complete idiot when I called.
I was younger than the call recipients in most cases and always had this fear that they would just think I was a young idiot, so that went into my exhaustive prep.
I have no problem calling people I know. Just cold calling strangers puts me on edge.
Exactly. Phonecalls are an intrusion.
Probably because outside of a few calls to family my phone calling consists of hearing, "your call is very important to us. (No, it isn't. Otherwise you would have answered!) please continue to hold for the next available representative. Your expected wait time is 14 hours and 37 minutes."
I have hated making phone calls for many years...not sure why. Recently someone emailed me that I should call him—I didn’t see why the issue could not be resolved by email, but I did so. Before making the call I was thinking to myself—would I rather have a root canal than make a phone call, or are they about equal?
The only phobia I have is trying to call for help, where I have to jump through hoops to talk to a person.
So long as you’re not a high talker....
The therapeutic state invents yet another phony disorder. Of course the only “treatment” is suicide and homicide inducing drugs
Who cares?
Why care?
Their choice to pickup or not.
If I had ever had a job as a telemarketer of any kind, I would have starved to death.
